Sure classics are a great of the collection but when you realize these versions were the very first ones released, it just pisses me off.

I bought a Casablanca DVD but I couldn't get to the back because it was covered with a cardboard slip. Out of curiosity I bought it anyway and to my dismay it was the inferior 2001 edition. The picture had some scratches and tears and the grains were prominent. This was my second incident.

I also got a Ben-Hur DVD. I was tricked yet again by the cardboard cover because it showed the cover of the most recent release of Ben-Hur on DVD. When I slipped it out, I just felt like an idiot. Fooled again. Hopefully this is the last time I don't use my brain.

My very first disappointing buy (the most disappointing as well) was The Deer Hunter DVD. The culprit is still the cardboard cover with the Academy Award label. I opened it up and found the cover with a lame design but I didn't mind so much. I got home and popped it in and guess what? It was non-anamorphic and the menu looked like crap! It was almost like a pirated copy of the movie. Of course, I looked it up and found that three versions existed and out of the three I got the worst.

Let's hope that cardboard menace doesn't lead me to wasting my money again. Good news is I've seen the recent ones with the back of cardboard cut out to show the details.

Oh well...  Casablanca and Ben Hur are Warner releases, and Warner (and it's local distributor Studio World) has not been releasing new versions of classic films in awhile, so most must be older versions, but they are still better than not getting them at all, and at low prices, puwede na rin... just don't expect perfection.

I guess that's something to be contented about. The Deer Hunter though was utter crap. lol

It's kind of sad that Warner has pulled out. I hope it doesn't keep Inception from being an awesome package.
