Hi peeps.  I was a dvd collector before and i have many orig R1 movies for my kids. Almost all of them have scratches and some resulted to "freeze frames" and "skips".  I have just recently started collecting BD's but find it hard to dispose-off my dvd collection especially those that are my kids favorites.  So, i decided to "re-furbish" these discs... Here's what i want to share:
1.  I have a Head Lamp Cleaner for my car that can remove fine scratches -  I used it on the discs
2.  I bought a "Scratch Be Gone" marker - supposed to fill out deep scratches on CD's so that light will not bounce-off daw... (bought at ACE Hardware)

Findings:  IT WORKED!!!!

just wanted to share.... good luck guys.  hope this helps....
