Although you have to manually set the regional coding, Soniq QPB302B is becoming popular here in Australia. You read it right--you can set both BD and DVD to different regional coding with just the remote.

In addition, it can play video and music files on a FAT32/FAT USB memory drive.

The official website is http://soniq.com/Qplay.php?mdm=f507aa4ef605dfc3d832b6b230df8f08&group=Blu-ray%20Disc%20Player

JBHiFi is currently selling it for 99 AUD or 4,033.98 PHP. Isn't that a steal?

I did not notice that many people have visited this thread. I am still thinking whether I am going to sell a few of these or not.

Here are the basic specs:

http://soniq.com.au/specs/offerSheet/qpb302b.pdf

Do you guys think that this will work in the Philippines?

See you in my merchant thread http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,123715.0.html as I check that one more often.

Imo, I don't see any problem, its autovolt. Yun lang you have to check if australia is the same region as America, Phils, hongkong, japan (Region A). I think majority of the people in the Phils have/buy discs from this region. I think Australia is Region B. If this player can be made region free then no problem. You can try making it region free first and see if it can play these regions. You can always sell an open box player (bec. for testing purposes)..I will buy the open box for 1000pesos haha.. Joke, joke.

When in doubt "Google it" Grin

owner's feedback
"To everyone who is querying whether the QPB302B is a true multi-region Blu-ray player, the answer is yes. There is absolutely no doubt about this.

1. Someone mentioned that the player may be playing region-free discs purchased fron the US, and that myself and others may not realise that this is the case. No, that's not what's happening. I have played five Region A discs I have bought from the US, which I have not been able to play on either a Sony or Panasonic Blu-ray player. Two of these discs are Criterion discs, and, as we all know, Criterion discs are Region A only. For those who are not familiar with Criterion, the company is licensed only to publish Region A, so there is no way that a Criterion disc will play on a region B player.

2. I reckon the people who can't get this to play Region A are not literally following the abovementioned steps in the code change sequence. It took me a while to nut this out because someone posted the wrong code in one of the threads (he said 8250, not 8520) and this threw me out. The other tricky bit is that there are two versions of the setup menu: one that lets you change either the DVD or Blu-ray region, and one that lets you only change the DVD region. I kept landing in the latter because I wasn't entering the right code. You access the right setup menu by entering the 8520 code. Once you are in this menu, you can change the Blu-ray region field from B to A by entering "1". Later, you can change it back to B by entering "2". The Blu-ray change field does not accept letters, only numbers, so you enter "1" for region A and "2" for region B. The field also accepts "4", which I presume is Asia, but it doesn't accept zero or any other numbers. You can't in the sense make this "region free" by entering zero – you can however make it region A, B, or C by entering 1, 2 and 4. (I'm presuming "4" is region C, but I don't know this for sure).

PS. I'm not sure about the earlier model having different firmware, and that being an issue. All I can say is that the multi-region thing is working for me on a QPB302B I bought from JB Hi-Fi in the past week

edboy7,

that is correct--you have to type in a code to change the regional coding for both DVDs and BDs. And that is the exact code you posted.

Problem is retail shops do not want to tell buyers that they are multi-region so I need to test the player after purchasing (if in case I decide to sell some). That means it is going to be brand new but opened.

Will that matter to you?

This shouldn't be a problem so long as its done only to make the unit region-free. Put me in line in case you decide to bring home some units for sale. Grin

Is there a limit to how many times you can change the regional coding?
