Spinning...

I'm with Dorian Gray on this one: why not do editing on things fans REALLY want, like removing Jar Jar Binks, and removing all of Hayden Christiansen's scenes with a better actor.

Like it or not, jar jar binks is part of Star Wars lore na, so if you edit them, it has the same effect as those other edits Lucas did.  The true fans just want to see Star Wars just like they did it the theatres (maybe at higher resolution).

I saw the Ep 4 to 6 box set in Odyssey at Mall of Asia few weeks ago. It is priced at 2500 pesos. Imo this is a great price. I just saw one copy.

I also think Cardinal Audio in Virramall will have this complete set. But the price is just ridiculous imo. It's better to just get it via amazon thru jac or from our fellow members in the marketplace thru special order.

Yes true. But I think 5500 pesos is a great price already bec.

1. It's right there in front of you na Grin, don't have to wait. Some star wars freaks/nerds Grin, just can't wait.
2. Premium pricing bec. this set is so rare here in the Phils. O rockwell may be the only one that have it. I haven't seen one in any Astro branches. I was looking for it since Day 1 of release. There was a store that is selling it for a whopping 7,500 pesos  Shocked ata (advance release pa siya, this may be initial quotation). I will not mention the store. Grin
3. Hey its star wars, meron talaga premium. Grin

I don't have the Star Wars BD set yet, but I'm curious --- has anybody experienced the audio dropout and "DTS bomb" issues on this set?

It's all over the US forums.

Tnx atty for bringing out this matter as I'm not aware of it until I read your comments. I have the BD set &  have completed Episode 1 to 4. So far, I haven't notice any audio dropout & bomb issue. From the US forum, some members pointed out EP IV New Hope chapter 16.

So I tested it this morning & skip to chapter 16. Immediately I got shock when I heard the "bomb" exploded! haha...I quickly lower the volume & skip to Chapter 16 again...yup the "bomb" is there. However, other than that I didn't find any audio dropout. For a regular playback I don't experience any bomb or audio drop out. It seems the "bomb" occur only when I use the skip function in my remote control & affected specific chapter.

I will watch Ep V & VI this coming days & hopefully they are fine. Smiley

Oh wow! that's sad. I've withheld purchasing the Star Wars BD till now.

Should I still hold out? or buy?

And is this "DTS bomb" only present in the DTS track? so the Dolby track should be okay right?

Thanks for your quick reply!

I had my doubts abouts the US comments, since nobody has commented on the pinoydvd forum.   However, because there are so many US posts about it, they can't all be wrong.  That's why I decided to ask for confirmation.

Well, that's sad news.  The US Star Wars fans still haven't figured out what's wrong with the discs.

The DTS bomb is scary, since the defect can easily damage speakers.  A new audio encoding system on the DTS-MA track might be at fault.  The authors could have included data that can't be handled properly by DTS decoders on most receivers.

What receiver (and player) are you using?

Raymond (Moks007) also own the BD set & I think he has watched the entire set but so far I haven't heard any negative comments from him. I will try to check with him.

From my earlier test, the DTS bomb won't probably reach the extend of damaging our speakers but sure won't feel good when it happens...  Grin I also tried skipping to other chapters but unable to locate any other DTS bomb. Then I inserted Episode V disc, hoping to find another bomb but futile. So the bomb is probably very isolated & in my case it can be triggered tru the "search" or "skip" functions.

Will post my comments here if I have further findings. I'm using Panasonic BD65 player & AVR Onkyo 1007. Smiley

You're getting the usually reported behavior, where the bomb appears only when the chapter select is used, as posted here:

Try turning your volume way down so there's no chance of damage and use the chapter select to go straight to Chapter 16 on A New Hope. Many people are reporting the movies play fine, but that if you start the movie using the chapter select that you get the bomb.

It's good that the bomb you're getting is a moderate one.  But for other systems, speaker damage is a big possibility, since there are reports that the volume spike is huge, which is why they call it a "bomb."  For example:

I watched the movie from the beginning for a while and had no problems, but when I went to the Scenes menu and selected the "Millennium Falcon" scene - BOOM! The instant the scene began I got the mother of all audio spikes through every channel simultaneously It sounded like the house exploded and I was sure that I had blown all of my speakers (thank goodness for the durability of SVS).

I tried it again with the volume extremely low and heard it again. If I let the disc play up to that point it doesn't happen, but if I use the menu to go directly to that scene it happens every time.
