My cousin owns a blu-ray player and he got tons of blu-ray discs. Then he start scratching one of his disc (no, he isn't crazy, but he read somewhere online that blu-rays are scratch proof) using a knife and it worked.
Why did he have to test with a knife? All he had to do was ask pinoydvd

.
Hardcoating on Blu-ray discs make them less vulnerable to scratches than standard DVD. But it does not mean that BDs are 100% scratch-proof. BDs have a scratch-protection coating, but they are not coated with a layer of diamond

.
Since BD's data layer is closer to the surface of the disc (0.1 mm.) compared to standard DVD (0.6 mm.), even the slightest scratch could affect BD playback. For extra protection, BD specifications require a hardcoating, the hardness of which should pass a Taber Abrasion test (

The hardcoating on BDs is designed to resist minor scratches from normal use. But it was not designed to resist a knife attack from Norman Bates ...
...no, he isn't crazy, ...
That is disputable ...
