As first reported by moks007,

Studio World had released the Asian (?) version of the Bluray of The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy.  At Php4950, it's a bit expensive but for those who can't wait, it's available at select Astrovision outlets.

From what I gathered, the set comes in a sturdy box.  All 15-discs.  The three movies are split into two Bluray each (total six discs), the other nine discs are the special features.  These nine discs are DVDs (not blurays) and from reviews online are rehashes of the special features discs from the original LOTR Extended Edition DVD boxset from December 2004.

AFAIK, the one released locally does not include Digital Copies of the film.

Yes kinda expensive imo, unlike the Alien set before  Grin Amazon have it now for 69.99. I was gonna buy it sana yesterday but the price difference recently versus amazon is just too much.

From the copy I'd seen, the Videogram sticker is outside the plastic. Same with the barcode, sticked outside. The original (barcode) space is occupied by blank white box.

Subtitles include Asian languages, that's why I speculated that it is Asian version. Wala yata regional encoding na naka indicate but I am not sure...

Chances are, they are the same.  With the exception that the US version include Digital Copy Codes (the digital copy itself, you have to download so you might need to have a speedy net connection with no data download limit).  The local version does not have those codes.  So the difference is a piece of paper with those printed codes.

And the Local version has the discs enclosed in Blue transparent Bluray cases, while the US version is Black.

The outer sturdy cardboard box seems similar.

Basing my views on reviews found online, as my own copy is still in transit.

That's been on sale at Astrovision since last December. Anyone can just correct me on that if I'm wrong. There's a copy of the theatrical edition boxset at Astro Robinsons Place Manila. I don't know lang how much because all I did was look at the box and the special features. Didn't bother asking how much it was.

Can someone comment on the video quality of the locally distributed extended edition? That green tint is disconcerting. No statement yet from Peter Jackson et al if it was done on purpose.

I happened on a US version of the Trilogy, the packaging has identical packaging art to the local version except that the lettering is in Shiny Gold and it's (the whole box) about 25% thinner.  They both contain 15-discs but while the local version is in transparent blue Bluray cases we are accustomed to see (albeit fattened to accommodate 5 discs each), the US version is in thinner black.  The enclosed leaflet are identical, but again, the US version is in non-glossy paper which look classier...

If you are not after the digital copy (which unless you have a good broadband is a looong download), and wouldn't mind paying a little more (around 500 or so), then get it locally.  You get instant gratification, since you can bring it home and enjoy the movies with popcorn (not included) immediately.  For some, that is worth paying  the extra...

Content of the Philippine edition and the US one is similar except for the missing digital copy.

I rented the theatrical version of the Fellowship and I was disappointed that there were no new special features. I undestand that they just included the same DVDs they included in the extended edition. They didn't even add the audio commentary! Nor was there any of those flashy behind the scenes extras which you could view while the movie was playing. I thought they should have at least included the extended edition in one blu ray disc.

The original theatrical release on DVD didn't have an audio commentary, which is exclusive to the extended editions.

The only thing these blu-ray "re-releases" did was upgrade the visuals and audio. All special features for both theatrical and extended editions remain intact and unchanged. Except for the extended editions. They get three extra discs containing the Costa Botes documentaries which were only previously available in a separate edition.
