Just saw Tears of the sun at astro glorietta with a free mug for P850.  Any updates on this R3 version? Same din ba ng features ng R1?

I bought the Tears Of The Sun R3 dvd at Astrovision SM City - Cebu for P850.00.  The back cover lists the following Special Features:
* Audio Commentary From Director Antoine Fuqua
* Writer's Observations
* Journey to Safety: Making Tears of the Sun
* Voices of Africa
* Deleted Scenes
* Africa Fact Track
* Interactive Map of Africa
* Trailers
* Animated Menus

Also: the R3 has:
* 2 DD 5.1 languages (English and Thai)
* Subtitles in Chinese, English, Korean, Thai
* 2.40, 16x9 Widescreen Anamorphic
* Dual Layer

Amazon.com lists the following for the R1:
Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen, Dolby
• Commentary by director Antoine Fuqua
• Theatrical trailer(s)
• Writer's observations
• Journey to Safety: Making Tears of the Sun
• Voices of Africa
• Deleted scenes
• Africa fact track
• Interactive map of Africa
• Widescreen anamorphic format

Aspect Ratio(s):
Widescreen anamorphic - 2.40:1

Discographic Information:
DVD Encoding: Region 1
Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1), French (Dolby Digital 5.1)
Available subtitles: English, French

** So, it seems to me, that aside from the audio tracks and the subtitles, both are pretty much the same.

For those who have it, is the film good?

Didn't catch it in theaters eh.. pero mukhang ok yung mga trailers nya - full of action...

Can anyone give their opinion of the film? Smiley

There's 3 version of Tears from the Sun in stores today:

The P299 budget edition
The regular version
The Director's Extended Cut

The budget edition contains the movie only, in DVD5.  The Director's Extended Cut added 24 minutes extra footage to the film but it took off the Director's comments, writer's observations, and deleted scenes that were included on the original release.

I think this is one of the few instances where the original version is better than the Director's Cut.  The original version has the 24 minutes extra scenes, but it's in the deleted scene section.

Thanks for the advice. I was really tempted to buy the director's cut the other day since I really loved the movie. But since the 24 minutes extra scenes are already included in the regular version...........wag na lang!!! Grin

^ The 24 minutes extra scene is in the bonus section, hindi dinuktong sa movie.  The movie is still shorter than the DC version.  The picture quality of those extra scenes are kind of bad, it's because they're just extra unlike the DC version.

It's really a tough choice.  You either have the longer movie version or the one with more extras.

I already have the regular version so this is a no brainer. I'm not gonna plunk 800+ for this. Thanks for the heads up though. Smiley
