I'd suggest that you go for Liteon. I have ASUS E616, it has no problems reading DVDs, pero ambagal ng ripping speed pagdating sa audio cds and data cds. DVD ripping speed is good though. Yun nga lang, madali uminit pag ripping and playback, thats why i had to use dvdidle. If you have plans on using your dvd-rom as a cd-rom na rin, go for liteon, I saw its performance and its really good. Just waiting for my separate cd-rom to break down before i ditch my ASUS drive and buy a liteon as a cd-rom/dvd-rom.

Settle for Liteon bro. i'm using a Liteon LTD-165h so far no problems encountered. I know a lot of people who are using Liteon DVD-ROM Drives and they seem satisfied with it. Not picky & could read p* DVDs.  Grin

I finally replaced my Asus drive and bought Liteon (XJ-HD165H). So far so good. Rips fast, reads all my DVDs, and does not generate that much heat, unlike Asus. Now, I have to RMA the Asus drive and sell it...

is your liteon region free out of the box or do you use a particular software for making it region free?  if you do, what software do you use?  thanks

the model that i got was not a region-free drive. you may flash it para maging region-free. havent done that yet, coz im using dvdidle pro na me kasamang software para kunyari region-free yung dvd-rom.

LITE-ON!  Cool

Flash it to make it region free. I got XJ-HD166S ang it's the best DVD-ROM in the market.

Hello!

Just found out a bummer for the lite-on

I got a DVD/CD-R Combo drive and a 52X CD ROM drive both from LITE ON.

The Combo drive is very good,  Wink however the CD ROM drive has a springy sound once the disc goes in.  :oI tried to go back to PC express to have it replaced only to find out that ALL Shocked 7 units there has the same springy sound. I tried to install an ASUS which is 200 pesos more and it doesn't emit that annoying springy sound. I know that both reads CD/CD-R/CD-RW well but for the meticuluos individual, like I am, ITS ANNOYING. Any similar experiences? Huh

I agree.... Lite-on over Asus anytime! Better price and performance. My Asus CD-ROM died in less than 2 yrs. At least its much better compared to the BTC DVD-ROM drive that I bought from the States which had less than a year of life span.  Angry Huh

Only bummer about Lite-on is the dearth of firmware flash floating around the net to make it RPC1 (compared to the name brands - Toshiba, Sony, etc.)

Walang panama ang  ASUS   optical drives  sa  Lite-on.  Design/box  and  manual  lang maganda ang  ASUS. I have extremely bad experience  with ASUS  optical drives since  1999 Gilmore  PC OPTION days, nung pinakamahal   pa  ang model nila na 50x na sobrang sirain. I tried last year to buy one kung ok na ang new models nila,  ASUS 48x12x48, 3 cds   palang ayaw  na magburn, sobrang kainis   after 3  hrs   balik agad sa PCX, ofcourse palit agad ng lite-on. Walang pinagbago, sablay pa rin  ang   design nila.  Tongue

I   will never use   nor  recommend   ASUS   optical drives. But mobo, ok ang ASUS.

Does anyone know if the MSI DVD/CDRW is any good? I'm thinking of getting this drive kasi, It's rated to be silent... perfect sana for watching DVD.  My current drive is a Lite-on DVDrom drive, yeah its great but its noisy... sometimes the spindown of the discs are annoying especially if you are watching a good DVD movie na medyo quiet ang scene.  I can really hear it go swish swish swish!

If anyone owns an MSI DVD rom or Combo drive, please share your experiences with it Smiley

Or if you know of any other brand that is not too noisy.

Thanks!

I'm using a black 52x24x52x16 Samsung SM-352B Combo drive.

Pretty quiet when watching movies though I rarely do so.

I use Lite-on as my DVD-ROM.  Although I had a p-DVD (It Might Be You) which I wasn't able to finish because of pixellations to the max.  Must be the quality of the disc though.  Overall performance  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Am using a LiteOn DVD writer at home and so far, no problem. Am using a SONY CD writer in the office and while it burns CDs well, it's choosy playing certain discs.  Can't play some p-discs.  But a back-up TEAC CD-ROM can.
