na-hijack hehe..

pero make sure na enabled ang DMA mode sa drive mo. Go to Device Manager, right click yung drive and then click Properties (king Win98/ME) or right-click IDE controller (Primary or Secondary, depende kung san nakakabit yung drive) then Properties. Setting should be at least UDMA 2.

purchased a LITE-ON DVDrom/CDr combo last saturday, played all cd formats: data, audio, vcd except for DVD  Huh i called up the vendor to ask why.  i'll be bringing it back to them to have it checked.

anyone experienced the same problem before?

I've had Lite-on, Asus and Sony drives before (Combo, DVD-Rom, CD-roms).

They pretty much work the same. I would give premium to the noise it produces. I think Asus produces the least noisy Combo Drive.. it's worth a look.

asus, is not an oem for dvd-rom drives, lite-on is an oem. so asus probably has their drives made by another.

i vote for lite-on. but if i were you i'g do for the pioneer dvd rom drives.

I've seen a number of problems with Asus CD or DVD rom drives. I don't think Asus puts their resources on these products. Regarding Lite-on, I've had CD-R media since 1999 and never had any problems with it which is in contrast with other popular brands. If Lite-on can be very good at CD-R media it should be that Lite-on makes good drives.

As such, I vote Lite-on.

I have to say LiteOn, because of its easy and safe region unlocking and a lot of third-party programs

Try this program to unlock the dvd region
http://dhc014.rpc1.org/LtnRPC/

I own a LiteOn SOHW 1673s,  a hand-me-down unit from my bro at the states, sadly, its a bit noisy and less stable in reading and writing DVDs compared to the Toshiba SD-R5272 (also from my bro).  I already upgraded it to lates firmware from LiteOn. It was able to read dvds which before it cannot read but still there some wait times in accessing the other dvds.

been experiencing problems with my Lite On DVD rom, just stops in a middle of a DVD playback.  I usually re-install the powerDVD software and the drive goes back to normal operation. a bit of inconvenience lately  Huh

anyone with similar experience?

if re-installing the dvd playback software fixes the issue... wouldn't that indicate a software problem and not with the drive?

fortunately, my lite-on dvd reader and writer are not yet finicky with dvds ... they either read them or they don't (which is not often tho.) LOL ... one is over 1.5 years old and the other is fairly new.  Grin

Re-installing the sofware fixes the problem, but sometimes the problem still manifests. What other software can use?

Liteon.  Have a DVD ROM, DVD Writer on my desktop and a DVD combo drive in my HTPC.  No problem except for some stubborn p****** dvds.

my guess would be that you are running another software that messes up the files powerdvd needs to run. try installing a different player like VLC or WinDVD and see if the problem returns.  Grin

good luck.  Smiley
