Guys, help. I have an existing HT with my Sony Bravia LCD TV bought about 3 years ago. I'm thinking of upgrading only the DVD player to a Blu Ray player with direct usb, and where I can still use my 5.1 speakers. What brand and models do you recommend?

I doubt that you can buy a separate bluray/receiver where you can re-use your current 5.1 speakers. The best you can do is buy a bluray player and connect the digital output to your existing dvd player/receiver input, granting that it has one (coaxial or optical). Kung wala, you're stuck with your dvd htib unless you replace it with another. Btw bluray htibs are kind of expensive.

It would depend on what your old receiver can accept...  Optical input or analog?

Then you can look for Bluray players that have those outputs.  Most Bluray players can output 5.1 sound via optical but only those on the higher-end have 5.1 analog output...

Hi I probably have one that you were looking.  This Sony Blu ray player is capable to output a 5.1 as well as 7.1.  It is the higher version of the BDP S550, the model is BDP S1000ES it is an elevated standard model, you may check this Sony site, http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665945151#features.

I think he needs one with an amplifier, as he wants to reuse his HTIB speakers.

Kung may multi-channel analogue input yung AVR mo, pwede kabitan ng BDP with multi-channel analogue output. That way you can enjoy HD audio, if that's what you're after.

Masmahal mahal lang siya ng kaunti. It's a good option if your receiver does not have audio digital inputs or if your receiver cannot process audio signals via hdmi. But i'm not sure if the player will send hd audio via the multichannel analog outputs. Baka downgrade lang into standard audio.

mas mahal nga lang konti bro...if BD Player can decode DTS HD/ DD trueHD.  pwede yun....you can do a AB test sa receiver mo , you just toggle between the direct analog in and digital inputs ...mas malaki ang tunog ng HD  Smiley

Thank you for the suggestion. My existing player has optical cable connection, will try to look for a blu ray player and connect via optical cable as you suggest. What about the video?

Connect the hdmi directly from your bd player to the tv (if lcd, led or plasma). If crt, use the standard av cable but your resolution will only be limited to 480p.
