Hi!

I recently purchased DVDs of Out of Sight and Italian Job (the 2003 remake) and got interested in "heist" films - movies about a group of people with various talents trying to steal something.

I've looked over my collection and note that I have the following:

1. Soderbergh's Out of Sight;
2. Italian Job (2003);
3. Spike Lee's Inside Man; and
4. Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs.

Tomorrow, I've decided to see if Astro has Sneakers and Ocean's 11.

Based on some "best of" lists on the web, I'm also thinking of ordering Rififi and the original Italian Job from Amazon.

Any other recommendations?

I like HEAT and RONIN, both starring Robert de Niro.

RONIN is not exactly a heist job but close to it.

There's always the MI series.

Just finished MI3, I agree. I should get the first MI, as that hanging on a rope thing is a classic (JJ Abrams has a nice homage to it in MI3 - Vatican scene).

My current top-10 list (in order of preference):

  • Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (definitely my favorite)
  • Heat (best actual heist scene)
  • Inception (best concept)
  • The Town
  • Reservoir Dogs (more of a post-heist, actually)
  • Point Break (surfers, dude)
  • Ronin (best car chase)
  • Rififi (silence is golden)
  • Inside Man
  • Snatch

Honorable Mention: The Thomas Crown Affair (I like Steve McQueen but I thought the Pierce Brosnan version was better).

Here are some old titles I enjoyed watching:

1. HEIST (has a very good twist- starring Gene Hackman)
2. THE SCORE (starring Robert De Niro; one of Edward Norton's best performances)
3. LADYKILLERS (starring Tom Hanks)

If you're into TV series, you will also like Prison Break Season 4 -lots of twists and turns, but I would recommend watching the whole series!
