mga sirs just want to know kung ang ps3 ba can output TrueHD from a bluray disc. kasi i am using it as a bluray player connected via HDMI to a pioneer vsx520 pero hindi umiilaw ang TRUEHD na ilaw. may bearing po ba dahil 2.1 set up lang ako.

thanks for the reply.

yes, the ps3 can play true-hd. In the audio setting menu of ps3 you can configure your unit to produce hd audio

kung naka slim ka, i set mo as bitstearm under the video settings of the ps3. dapat gumana yan. the fat one yata can also decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA, but it only passes it to the receiver as an uncompressed PCM stream.

Newbie question: In your PS3 Audio settings, what is the difference between "Bitstream" and "PCM or LPCM?"

both settings can output hd sound (as long as your software has it)

choosing pcm/lpcm means you let the ps3 do the decoding of the hd sound material before it goes into the amplifier for sound amplification.

choosing bitstream means you let the ps3 pass or "bitstream" the hd sound material to the amplifier to decode the hd sound.

what's better, really depends but a lot of people choose bitstream because they will see the words "dolby truhd" or "dts ma" on their receivers, which i have to admit a reason why people upgrade to the hdmi based receivers/amplifiers so that we can use the decoding capabilities of such.

this is for PS3 slim, not sure about fat. this assumes that your  PS3's HDMI out connects directly to your receiver...

dalawa yung settings na dapat properly configured for the receiver to get bitstream signal via HDMI from the PS3.

1. VIDEO Settings -> BD Audio Output Format (HDMI): Bitstream, Linear PCM

2. SOUND Settings -> Audio Output Settings -> HDMI Out, Digital Out (Optical), AV Multi Out

->HDMI Out: Automatic (auto-enable supported formats of your receiver), Manual (selectively enable DTS, DTS-HD, DD, DD TrueHD, etc.) -> Summary of Audio Output Formats (press X to save)

possible kasi na naka-set nga to "Bitstream" yung "BD Audio Output Format (HDMI)" tapos "HDMI Out" ang naka-set na audio output, pero 2-Channel Linear PCM lang pala ang naka-enable na output format. This can happen if previously sa HDTV lang naka-connect yung PS3 and you never bothered to reconfigure "Audio Output Settings" nung kinabit na sa receiver

by the way, as of FW 3.73, while playing Bluray 3D Content DTS-HD is supported but AFAIK Dolby TrueHD is not

I know isa lang kaya niyang surround output, HDMI or optical. But you can set both to give output pero it stereo na lang.

kung nakaset sa AVR mo ay optical then you need to select the optical output not HDMI
for your sound

since you have avr set the optical to bitstream

fat ba yan or slim?

Thanks sa reply bros. Fat yata mga 3inches in height itong ps3.
Optical kse gagamitin ko when connected sa avr sa sala & hdmi pag sa LCD Lang using LCD speakers sa room.
Para no need to go to sound menu to change the setting everytime I change places.

i think you mean the other way around...
if i'm not mistaken, ps3 fat can't bitstream dts-hd and dolby truehd but it can decode those formats internally and output them as multichannel lpcm

see iiinas' post above re: difference between bitstream, pcm, and lpcm

when i tried it the other day on my PS3 slim

if i set the hdmi audio to LPCM

the slim decodes it then send it to receiver
sa receiver PCM lang nakalagay
pagcheck mo sa ps3 menu DTS HD MA

binago ko sya sa bitstream
lumalabas sa receiver DTS HD MA na

so sa FAT decode nya internally then send it as LPCM

As I understand it, sa ps3 fat it can output up to 5.1 lpcm via optical or up to 7.1 lpcm via hdmi.

theoretically, since pare-parehong lossless ang dts-hd, dolby truehd, at lpcm, then there wouldn't be any difference in sound quality via hdmi. nagkaiba lang yung signal format na matatanggap ng reciever.

kapag through optical naman, not sure if 7.1 is downmixed from decoded lpcm, or yung "core track" ang pinapasa sa receiver (i.e. lossy DTS Core from lossless DTS-HD track)

so in short, you should be able to listen to dts-hd and dolby truehd tracks on ps3 fat.

Ok na po audio I was able to set it up accdg to your advices & also sa guidance ng son ko (baliktad yata). Lumabas na and sound at dts (dts Lang) sa avr.
Ang problem po ngayon at medyo choosy na ang ps3, I'm the middle of the concert nag skip or pause and accdg to my son may game saw sya na ganun din ang ngyayari. Ano po kaya ang problem at ano kaya pwedeng gawin? May lens cleaner ba for ps3 or bd or saan pwede pa check?

What firmware version do you have?

Btw, devices cannot transmit DTS-MA (or TrueHD or even multichannel LPCM) via optical, unless 2 channels lang ang habol mo (i.e. stereo).

Try using coaxial cable ps3 to avr then hdmi to tv. That's the instructions  i got from DTS if i remember correctly. give it a try. Good luck.
