I bought this yesterday, since I was surprised that there was a "Special Edition" Disney on R3 that was released ahead of an R1 version, which hasn't even been announced.

Packaging: Black original Amaray case; single page colored insert - Chapter stops on one side, List of Special Features on the reverse side

Picture Quality: The package says it's "brilliantly restored", Full-frame (the film's original aspect ratio is 1.37:1)

Sound: Dolby Digital 5.1 (English, Mandarin, Korean, Mandarin); Dolby Surround 2.0 (Thai)

Special Features:

1. "The Search For Jiminy Cricket" - A game you can play with your remote control. You answer moral questions (since with Jiminy missing, you are Pinocchio's substitute conscience  Grin), then look for Jiminy in different areas. I stopped after finding his hat.

2. "A Wish Come True: The Making of Pinocchio" - 5 minute documentary only, looks like a very old production which wasn't even cleaned up before being added to this DVD.

3. Sing-Along Songs: "Figaro & Cleo", "Little Wooden Head", "I'm a Fool Having Fun", "I'm a Fool With Fire". Unrestored, with flashing/highlighting song lyrics.

4. Storyboard to Final Film Comparison: A split screen film/storyboard comparison of the scene where Gepetto completed Pinocchio and started making him dance around. 4 minutes long.

5. Original 1940 Theatrical Trailer (1:40)

That's it. It's not really all that "Special", so it wouldn't surprise me if they came out with a "Platinum Edition" with new and better features sometime in the future.

Already saw this title too at astro & is priced at P750. Hesitated coz it was only a 1-disc version. The R1 release might be 2-discs kasi just like what happend to Sleeping Beauty (R3 only has 1-disc while R1 has 2-discs).  Huh

Is the "brilliantly restored" really worth double dipping compared to the  first R1 verison?

here, screencaps comparisons of the previous dvd, the platinum edition dvd, and the platinum blu-ray

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews44/pinocchio_blu-ray.htm

nagpaplano rin ako bilhin 'to... kaso parang ang mahal ng 750, probably dahil sa slipcase? ang initial price ng platinum dvd ng sleeping beauty ay 550 di ba? so 200 ang slipcase?  Cheesy

haha, ganito rin ang ginawa ko sa 101 dalmatians, fortunately for me nung nabili ko siya ng 299, a week later nagdisappear siya sa shelves, only to comeback a week later for the same price pero wala nang slipcase...
----

based sa comparison shots, parang wala kong nakikitang pinagkaiba ng dvd at blu-ray-- well of course, aside sa increased resolution ng blu-- pero in terms of detail, wala kong mapansin unlike sa Sleeping Beauty na kita ang difference sa details... eto rin ang comparison

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews42/sleeping_beauty_blu-ray.htm

I wonder how Snow White would look  Undecided
I am also awaiting the re-release of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" this fall. The title will push Disney's new line of series called the "Diamond Editions"... Kaso tingin ko magiging iba ang features from the original 2001 Platinum release, kaya kukunin ko rin yun, haha...
