I think this should be in the DVD+R thread.  Wink Hehehe....

I tried the DVD-R variant, yup, Sony rin siya and my BenQ 1640 likes them. No coasters and good quality burn. BTW, they are rated as 16x against the plain white DVD-R's which are rated 8x. Thus, I guess justifies the Php2 premium.

I bought some (Ridata) about a month ago at CDRKing SM Pampanga @ P16 each. Pagbalik ko after a week, wala na.

I also tried using Garfield (white) DVD(+)R 16X for a friend, burned at 16X okay naman. Sa lima, walang pumalpak kahit isa.

HP - May problema sa standalone.  Sometimes unreadable on an old Pioneer player.

Verbatim - No problems whatsoever.  It's the best I've tried.

also be wary of the gd025 white discs...medyo iffy ang quality.. kahit walang noticable physical damage nag-eerror ito while burning siguro success rate ko dito about 65%-70% lang..  ok kaya yung mga bagong disney?

Thanks for the link!  Very informative and useful.  I've checked my DVD-R and DVD+R discs and I've found out that my generic CDR-King discs are of good quality and relatively reliable.  Tapos, I've also discovered that buying branded discs is not an assurance that these are reliable.  I found out that the Iomega discs which I recently bought are among the list of 3rd Class Media discs.

It's CMC MAG AE1.  Actually, when I checked the list again, it's among the 4th Class Media list, while my Philips DVD+R (with manufacturer code CMC MAG.E01) is among the 3rd Class Media list.  I initially thought that the branded DVDs are better than the CDR King generic discs -- turned out to be the other way around.

Depends actually. As the article states, except for a few exceptions, none of the major brands actually manufacture their own discs anymore preferring to outsource them to bulk manufacturers like CMC and Ritek.

The way it was explained to me by a rep of one of the smaller Taiwanese manufacturers, there are quality grades across media lines. So if your disc's media code is CMC MAG for example, there is a difference between the AE1 sold by IOMEGA and the bulk quantity white top AE1. The branded version is probably a Grade A disc while the generic stuff could very well be Grade B or Grade C products so performance will definitely vary. I can't verify what he said though because he was trying to get me to order bulk from him.  Grin

For me, the CDR-King generics are a mixed bunch with some of them failing within 8 to 12 months.

Yes, I was able to buy some last March although madalang ang pagbenta nila nito.  These are generic dual layer discs with the name of CDR-King on it.  Just like any other generic DVD, these discs are not that reliable.  Two of the four discs I bought later ended up in the trash can.
