Compiling Tracks From Various DVDs

While I can rip some DVD concert or MTV tracks which are in the VOB format in my HDD,  how can I compile those various favourite tracks and burn them into one DVD easily?  Any recommended software? (preferrably downloadable idiot-proof freebies  ) Thanks.

Try dvdshrink 3.2 - it's freeware with surprisingly high quality.

Is it possible to extract tracks from one DVD and put them on another?

I have two DVD versions of Akira, one with really good video but with audio I don't care for, and the other with horrible video but with "better" audio. Is it possible to extract the video and audio streams I prefer from the different DVDs and combine them into one dvdr? I know the result might be out of sync, but I'd love to try Thanks!

you can do that but its a very complex procedure.  it means extracting the video/audio and combining them, and then re-authoring the dvd.  It may be very time consuming.

It's alright, I've got all of Holy Week to try . Any programs you can recommend, Kahon? I've got DVD Shrink but haven't figured out if I can do the extracting with that program.

u can also use dvddecrypter to extract the audio and the video separately.  just use it in IFO mode and enable stream processing.  then use demux for each of the tracks u would like to extract.

for muxing it, i think u can use muxman since it accepts m2v and ac3 streams

Hi guys! I was able to separate the preferred audio and video streams, but for some reason, the audio has a much longer running time than the video. I'm talking tens of minutes here, not something short and negligible. Does this have to do with the way the audio is compressed?

Whatever the problem is, is there a way I can fix this issue? Thanks!

I don't think that has anything to do with the compression.  But you can try one of those audio editing software like the Sony Soundforge or even the freeware Goldwave.  Maybe Nero also has it.  I haven't tried it but I think there's a function that allows you to change the pitch of the audio file with the option to retain, decrease or increase the running length.  You may have to experiment a lot to get the right running length.

i've recently used ImTOO DVD ripper (and a free AC3 codec) ... it allows you to select only which titles to rip into mpg (or any other format like DivX, Quicktime, etc, etc, as long as you have the codec installed)... and even which CHAPTERS to rip within each title. (oh yeah... it can also rip VOB and IFO files). quite easy to use too. 

from there you can author a new disc compiling all these tracks.

I tried Xilisoft DVD Audio Ripper to rip my concert DVD's to MP3 / AAC and sync them to my iPod.  Since I'm using only an iPod Shuffle, I don't need video.

Great app but it is not freeware.

Thanks guys for your suggestions. I've learned to use Smartripper  where I have a choice to stream the various chapters as a separate VOB file when ripping.  I used it to compile tracks from various favourite MTV and concert DVDs.  And now I use this together with a conversion software from Xilisoft to convert to Mpeg4 for my w900i.  Great tools.
