Hello!

« on: Dec 23, 2001 at 08:37 AM »

Hi,

We're Filipino teachers in an international school in Thailand, and we're looking for DVDs of classics like "Oro, Plata, Mata" and any Lino Brocka film. English subtitles will be nice so we can show the films to our fellow teachers from US, Australia, Canada, India, Taiwan, etc.

A friend is going home for the New Year, so we'd appreciate it if anyone can recommend a DVD store in Metro Manila where we can buy these. Region 3 is okay.

Welcome to Pinoy DVD, go2net

Region 3 Pinoy films are available at Astrovision that have numerous branches in metro manila malls like SM and Robinsons.
I don't really know if the films you mentioned are available but you can jsut ask your friend to check.

Hi go2net.  Welcome to PinoyDVD!

As far as I know, there is only one Lino Brocka film on DVD so far and it's the film "Macho Dancer".  I don't know if this title would be appropriate to your target audience though. Huh

At any rate, it's in Region 1 and available online (just click the link above).  I just don't know if this title is being sold locally.

If you want to know the other Filipino films available on DVD, kindly visit the "Pinoy DVDs " section of the forum.

Hope this helps Smiley

why doesn't the filipino movie industry take steps to preserve all our old films? Letting those old movies rot in some bodega is somewhat like letting a wondeful visual record of philippine history rot; why?

its expensive to transfer all movies into the more updated mediums of media.... they tried it in Sampaguita i think..

Guys, sometime last year I saw the first scorpio nights being sold in vcd format in astrovision robinsons galeria - I haven't seen it since.  I feel quite bad about not getting it then because now that i'm looking for it, I can't find it.  Does anyone have any info on this release?

Thanks!

It's also available on dvd unfortunately the version of Scorpio Nights on both the dvd & vcd is not the complete version of the film. It was a more sanitized version of the movie without the gratituous full frontal nudity courtesy of Daniel Fernando & Orestes Ojeda. I do own the uncut version on vhs & also the dvd.  Wink

There were two released DVD format from Regal

One was the more tame version which is sold in Philippine Market

and the Uncut One which is sold in International Market.

Try searching the clearance section of vcds (Im not talking about Atrovision Stores, try the Video City outlets in SM Malls).. sometimes they have it stocked there....

Has "Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit" with Dawn Zulueta and Richard Gomez been released in any format? What about "Sister Stella L" with Vilma Santos?
