From the Inquirer:

Speaking of the digital revolution, Unitel Pictures International (through Unico Entertainment) has put up www.cinefilipino.com.

The website will offer to online shoppers not only Unitel's prize-winning titles ("Crying Ladies," "Magnifico" and "Imelda"), but also Sampaguita Films classics and the master works of Lino Brocka, Ishmael Bernal and Mario O'Hara, among others.

Likewise, Gloria announced at the forum: "After long negotiations with Mother Lily Monteverde, we were able to acquire some titles from Regal's impressive catalogue of contemporary film classics. We will restore and subtitle these movies and make them available in the Internet."

DVD distribution is the new ballgame, according to Gloria. "Online retail is one way to beat film pirates in their own game."

The Regal Platinum Series will come in three waves.

The first wave includes "Relasyon" by Ishmael Bernal, "Makiusap sa Diyos" by Lino Brocka, and "Babae sa Bintana” by Chito Roño. The second wave consists of "Laro sa Baga" by Roño, "Hahamakin Lahat" by Brocka, and "Makati Avenue: Office Girls" by Jose Javier Reyes. The Third Wave features "Manila by Night (City After Dark)" by Bernal; "Ina, Kapatid, Anak" by Brocka and "The Fatima Buen Story" by Mario O'Hara.

Also in the lineup are Brocka's "Cain at Abel" and Marilou Diaz-Abaya's "Karnal."

Tony Gloria employed close to 100 artists who worked in 24 hour shifts restoring each and every frame painstakingly. Wow.

You know, Scorpio Nights was already released locally several months ago, but apparently in very limited copies.

I didn't believe it since I never saw it at Astro branches, but a friend of mine bought one in a shop in SM North EDSA. He showed me the copy, and it looks legit naman.

Unfortunately, it's the same as the recent VCD release, which has two scenes reedited/shortened.

yeah saw it also Mr. Hankey but my friend who bought it  told me it was the sanitized version....not Peque Gallaga's director's cut that was shown in Toronto Film Festival several years ago.....where one foreigner walked out from the screening and didn't understand Gallaga's vision.......

Sana director's cut yung Manila by Night, tsaka widescreen. I'm planning to buy Relasyon, although $18 is a bit steep for me. Any reviews?

This is great! I myself is waiting for "Manila by Night" by Bernal.  But I'll definitely try others by well known directors like Bernal,  Brocka, and Rono.

The print that Regal Films smuggled in Berlin Film Festival is still in excellent shape.....the same print that they show once in a while in film festival here. I hope that's still the same print that they transfer on dvd.

I want to hear also Mother Lily's commentary.  Grin

Rented Relasyon, the PQ looks like I'm watching an afternoon Filipino movie. Very poor! But at least, we can watch it in the leisure of our home and in DVD format.  Wink

The first wave includes "Relasyon" by Ishmael Bernal, "Makiusap sa Diyos" by Lino Brocka, and "Babae sa Bintana” by Chito Roño.

We called the VIVA office this afternoon. This first wave will be released in Philippine stores this week. I already reserved a copy of "Relasyon" from my favorite Astrovision branch.  Smiley

my friend has copies of Relasyon and Pahiram ng Isang Umaga and pic quality isn't all as bad as what's been posted here; in fact, it's quite satisfactory. The only gripe: the scene selection. They are too small and without labels rendering them almost useless.

I bought Relasyon. It's like my old Beta copy of the film. The video quality is passable with some color bleed, but it actually changes to something a little bit worse about halfway through the movie. The end credits, though, were redone, making them really stand out.  Grin

The video quality of Babae Sa Bintana is quite good.

I guess it all depends on what source they find when they master the films.

Hi, I'm new here!

the only filipino movie which was included in an international listing, maynila sa kuko ng liwanag [1975] by lino brocka is not yet in the horizon of the regal platinum collection.kelan kaya? doesanybody knowif there are plans to release this on dvd by any video outfit? what about the great genghis khan [1953] by manuel conde,as i know, there is one print that is still available and existing, nasa venice pa. will these movie see the light of day on dvd?

at kelan kaya ang commercial release ng dvd ng jose rizal [1998] ni cesar montano.i have a copy but i would love to see our countrymen and the world see this great movie , even though i am not a fan of cesar montano.

i am a practicing lawyer here in the philippines and an avid dvd collector. i have around 300 dvds from region 3 and region1,world cinema, shaw bros., hollywood blockbusters, critically acclaimed and oscar and cannes award winners.
