From Warner Independent Films:

From the director and star of "Amelie" (Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Audrey Tautou) comes a very different love story: A Very Long Engagement, based on the acclaimed novel by Sebastien Japrisot. Screenplay adaptation by Jean-Pierre Jeunet & Guillaume Laurant.

The film is set in France near the end of World War I in the deadly trenches of the Somme, in the gilded Parisian halls of power, and in the modest home of an indomitable provincial girl.

It tells the story of this young woman's relentless, moving and sometimes comic search for her fiancé, who has disappeared. He is one of five French soldiers believed to have been court-martialed under mysterious circumstances and pushed out of an allied trench into an almost-certain death in no-man's land.

What follows is an investigation into the arbitrary nature of secrecy, the absurdity of war, and the enduring passion, intuition and tenacity of the human heart.

The film also stars Gaspard Ulliel, Jérôme Kircher, Dominique Bettenfeld, Jean Pierre Darroussin, Denis Lavant, Clovis Cornillac, Albert Dupontel, Chantal Neuwirth, Dominique Pinon, Marion Cotillard, André Dussollier, Ticky Holgado, Jodie Foster, Jean Paul Rouve, Julie Depardieu, Tcheky Karyo, Michel Vuillermoz, and Jean Claude Dreyfus.

Warner Home Video is proud to present A Very Long Engagement in a special 2-disc release which will be available at all major DVD outlets starting July 4, 2005.

Suggested retail price is Php499.

Is 499 pesos the new pricing for new DVD warner releases? I am impressed.

Not exclusively. Most new releases will probably retail between Php499 (Constantine, A Very Long Engagement) and Php599 (Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous). New SE releases are down to Php695 (James Dean).

Probably not. According to Warner, they're phasing out inserts except for special variant editions. This includes Region 1 releases.

Warner Phils. gives the best value for DVD consumers nowadays. Sana nga tuloy-tuloy na. Looking forward to their release of Batman Begins DVD. Malamang una na naman tayo sa US. Sana comic book ulit iyong kasama and for P550 pa rin just like Constantine. All of the latest titles I bought are from Warner and I'll continue buying more of their DVD titles as a token of appreciation and most importantly, because of the lowest price for a good quality DVD. The continuing shift to keepcases is a global move on Warner's part. Snappers were really unpopular in their first world markets. All new R1 releases are also in keepcases now.

It’s not yet released.  I think it’s on July 12, 2005.same as the U.S. release date.  Sir firewired. Will it be released earlier here in the Philippines?

Among the 2-disc releases of Warner, I think this one has the best transfer. It is as clear as I remember it in the cinema. At the same time, all the special features are intact. And it is only 499 pesos!

Congratulations Warner Philippines for doing a great job on this one!

My only complaint with this release is that the text print at the back cover isn't that clear. Otherwise, at Php 499, 2 discs, with R1 features, and excellent picture and sound quality, this release is a steal! Smiley

My only complaint with this release is that the text print at the back cover isn't that clear.

I noticed that, too! I wouldn't say it's blurry, but not quite as sharp as I'm used to seeing, especially the white-on-black small print of "This DVD is copy protected" and "Francais" - the white doesn't look exactly even. I actually only noticed it since I was checking if the film had an English language track, and I had to strain a bit to read "Francais".  I picked up other copies trying to see if some were printed better, but they all looked the same to me.

And here I thought I was becoming prematurely presbyopic...  Cool

How was the shrink warp?  was it like the cigarette case or not?  You can tell if it's locally packed/produced or not.

The font or text at the back of my copy is clear too.

The shrink wrap is like the one that they use in sealing the books at powerbooks.  It's the malambot type.  It's not like the ones that they give as a free thingie with the handy sealer.
