Wala pa ba sa Tagalog DVD's yung mga Joey De Leon & Rene Requestas series like Starzan, etc o kaya yung kay FPJ like Ang Panday, etc  Huh

JT-At the rate this transfers are going you'll probably get them faster there in Singapore, Let me give you an example.
Last Committee meeting for the Party this coming 11-17-2001, Blitzkrieg(one voracious Wink collector indeed)made my jaw drop when he showed the group the RIZAL(GMA) Shocked DVD. He related that he was able to procure it in Quiapo, thus, the following Monday, I  went there myself and started to look for it, but alas, from the history that I gathered from the salespeople there, it was just delivered there and was probably brought abroad.
I am still looking for it and till now, nunca, even the Video City people are not aware that this DVD was ever produced. Huh
I am saddend by the fact that it is probably the same thing, all over  again, as  to. what happened to the ORAPRONOBRIS,Lino Brocka film which was distributed in Laser Disc format and did not even made the rounds here in Manila. Embarrassed
Do keep us posted just in case you'll come across a Pinoy film in DVD in one of your forays. Smiley

Oh my God! Alfie Amigo, how could you? Nananahimik ako. What have I done to deserve this he he he? Well, since buking na that I have the Rizal DVD, might as well tell them my story. I think the copy I have is a Commemorative Issue. I got it by accident and at the time I did not have a player yet. I just thought that since I was going to buy a player in the near future, might as well start collecting. I was not aware yet of this regional encoding crap but I sure do know how to spot a genuine.  So, coming from Raon where I bought an electrical gadget last October or November 2000, I passed by this store and saw the Rizal DVD screaming for everyone's attention and it caught mine (though I entertained thoughts that it was pirated). When I got my player this January 2001 and played the DVD on, I was amazed to have found out that it had a MENU and it featured the making of the movie. When I played the movie, it had automatic subtitles and the picture is almost perfectly crisp and clear. The packaging is also not so-so coz it has an in-lay and the paper is glossy and the prints are fine and not blurry.

Thereafter, I checked the stores (Astrovision) and they said that wala pang Rizal dvd and were unsure as to when GMA intends to have it released on that format.  I guess I was just lucky. I found the dvd at the time I was not looking for it. I think ganoon talaga. Agree?

blitzkreig,

That's a cool DVD you got there!  Probably the copy you have is a Limited Edition Corporate Givaway of GMA.  I guess GMA releases such once in a while.  I got a Christmas CD which they gave away in mid-90s.

Pare, do you have a scanned image there of your Rizal DVD.  Pa-share naman.  Kahit man lang sa picture makita namin Wink Thanks!

I guess our list of Pinoy DVDs is ripe for an update, BasketCase.

As per Amazon.com, there are three Filipino films (all directed by Eddie Romero, two of which stars FPJ) to be released on DVD by December 4, 2001

1.  The Raiders of Leyte Gulf (1963)
2.  The Walls of Hell (1964)
3.  The Ravagers (1965)

I'm assuming these are not the original local titles of these films. The "The Walls of Hell" for instance is the the FPJ starrer called "Intramuros".

I'm also aware that there exists a DVD of a Weng-weng  movie released by one of those outfits specializing in weird cult movies. May review pa nga eh. I stumbled across it using Google. Ayun! Nakita ko rin. Here's the link for the review. It's VERY interesting.
http://www.mhvf.net/forum/asian/posts/2109.html

The movie is "For Your Height Only", released by Simitar. Its an All region disc.

Wow! Biro mo, talo pa ni Weng Weng si Lino Brocka, may dvd na siya!

We can add Chained Heat 2:Stripped of Freedom to the list. It stars the inimitable Jewel Shepard, B-movie Queen, and currently an in-demand journalist. But wait, VHS pa lang ata meron nito, baka wala pang DVD.

I think the correct title is Caged Heat 2: Stripped of Freedom.  And boy, it's directed by Cirio H. Santiago.  Isn't he a respected Filipino director?  I could be wrong becase when I checked Amazon for Cirio Santiago's directorial jobs on movies/VHS sold in the site, it returned almost 20 movies to his credit.

Thanks for the heads up guys, I already updated the list in the first page.

I was in Powerplant just last week and saw two new Pinoy titles that aren't in the list. One's Bullet and I forgot the other one. I couldn't find them on the internet, so if any of you guys can refresh my memory, I'd really appreciate it.

I added Balahibong Pusa to the list. Wala akong link kasi di ko alam kung saan sya available online. Nakita ko lang sa Astrovision MegaMall last Saturday.

He.he. Sinabi ko sa sarili ko bibili ako ng Balahibong Pusa once it becomes available. Kasi I wanted to see Rica's b**** in all it's DVD glory pero ngayon at nandito na well, parang nagbago na ang isip ko.  Grin

There you go! Thanks Komikero. The two new Pinoy DVDs are Bullet and Balahibong Pusa. Wala pa sila link.

And let me just say that with the inclusion of these new titles, the quality of films being released on DVD still has not improved.

Welcome to PinoyDVD, mongodroid!

Actually, "For Your Height Only" is included in BasketCase's list.  I remember learning about the said title here on this thread.  You might have just overlooked it.  Check it out agian by clicking here.  The list is in alphabetical order and it's the only "F" entry.

Didn't "The Flor Contemplacion Story" win awards in an International Film Festival (Cairo, I think) and swept local awards as well?

So would you guys think that the standard of our Filipino DVD titles have gone up a notch higher with this film's inclusion in the list?

It's available at Cinestore. You can check here. Smiley However, I understand it's an obscure, hard to find item (approaching OOP status?) - so it's fine if you don't include it on the list.
