HOFD was on sale for P299 kanina!

I always use DTS demo disk 4 & 8 to demo LFE & surrounds to my guests. Beats having to open each DVD and forwarding to the awesome LFE & surround scenes.

The best for surrounds:

Xmen 2
Daredevil
Medeski, Martin & Wood- multi channel music
The Haunting
SPR
Eggles: Hotel California (separate instruments per channel)

Others:
The Corrs, unplugged
Air Force 1

Saving Private Ryan, in its first 30 minutes, gives your rear channels some of the most intense surround activity for a good 30 minutes.

Dances with wolves
The Haunting (DTS-ES)
Antz
Roy Orbison
Eagles: Hotel California
Sheryl Crow
Saving Private Ryan - end scene

DTS-ES Demo disk 8:
LOTR TTT (DTS-ES)-marshes & wall breach scene
Pirates of the Carribean (DTS-ES)- storm & Sea battle
X2 (DTS)- Jet fight scene
Daredevil
Martin, Medeski & wood (if that was correct) - 5 channel music, one instrument per channel,
-great for testing your surrounds for multi channel music

I did that too before, but later I got tired from opening each DVD and forwarding each to the best LFE & surrounds scenes to my guests. So I ended up getting 2 Demo disks  Grin.

Actually , sobrang sulit sa akin mga demo disks, I have played them the most often among my collection. Like I said in another post, I use the loud LFE scenes in the demo disks as my stress reliever..  Grin

Using some free DVD ripping software, you could compile onto a DVD-R the best scenes from many DVDs by ripping the relevant showcase chapters.    Haven't done this myself, but I can see the potential by looking at what those rippers can do.   Grin

When I was reading the instructions for dvdshrink, I think the software is capable of doing this. I just neither had the time nor the will to start making one  Grin. So anyone who can do this, pls PM me  Cheesy.

Daiichi showroom and 5th Ave Shang had a compilation like this from many different DVD scenes.

The most impressive surround scenes were:

AntZ: where Z was talking and the voice was panning around the speakers

Dragonheart: Also the voice panning around as Draco was flying and talking

Too lazy to start doing one nga eh... calling on fellow member DVD software wizzes!

I was also told by a cousin-in law that Se7en, DTS-ES was the best surround experience for him. He and his dad has a 2,000 DVD collection in 4 wall shelves. Geez, Nahiya lang ako mag sabi ng "can I go to your place and borrow a few?"  Grin

For discrete surround demos, yeah, agree that DTS demo discs are great for those.

There's another type of surround-sound demo, which for me is even more impressive. That's when all speakers, including surrounds, work together to create a coherent soundfield or a "bubble of sound" or whatever else it's called.

Examples (possible spoilers):

- Kill Bill Vol. 2. When the bride is being buried, there's nothing on the display, there's just the sound. And it will sound like you're inside the coffin, and the guy is shoveling dirt on top of your room (i.e. on your ceiling just above your head). So it feels like it's you who's being buried alive. Spooky.

- Requiem for a Dream. There's a scene where you're immersed in the middle of a drug-induced trip, complete with hallucinogenic sounds. IIRC there are several such scenes. What I do remember is that this film has great sound design.

- Super Speedway. Still one of the best demos. Here, your room is the car. The front tires are rumbling away in front of you. The engine is right behind you, just like it should be. And when the car hits "the bump" it feels like your couch is the driver's seat. WHAM!

- Blue Crush. When the big wave crashes, it rolls from the front of the room, toward you, and away from you toward the back of the room. It feels like you need a towel after that.

One of the best ones that pros use for testing an entire 5.1 system is U-571. No, not the depth charge scene. The one in the dining room. I'll look it up and post again.
