I used to subscribe to DVDTracker but it was too expensive for me so I switched to DVDProfiler.

Although it lacks some features that DVDTracker has (separating "Wish List" titles from your "Owned titles"), it's free and it's very easy to use.

What do you guys use?

I use DVDProfiler because it's free, plus it has its own software!  Cool interface, and it even displays the image of the front and back of the dvd case.

Phoebus, the DVD Profiler software has a separate list for wish list, owned, and ordered.  Are you referring to a web-based version of it?

flyderman Yup. I was referring to the web based version.

I had to remove all the titles from my Wish List so that the web based version would be easier to understand. Is there a way separate the wish list titles from the owned titles in the web based version?

DVDTracker for me! I started using it when it was still a free service. When they began charging $10 a year though, I was lucky enough to be one of the existing users that they sent out surveys to, and those who filled it up got a free year's service. When the term's up, I probably will pay the $10 dues as I think the interface is a lot cleaner than DVDProfiler's.

Hello Guys!

I've been reading a lot about these trackers and catalogs from other DVD forums. How does it work? How does it benefit you?  Thanks...

Komikero, Simply put, trackers/catalogs help you to keep track of your dvd collection. They help you organize your titles under categories such as "Loaned", "Owned", "Ordered" & "Wishlist".

Some catalogs also publish your collection on the web so you can share your collection with your friends. (Good way of hinting to your friends about what titles you do or don't need).

The following thread is an example of published collections by use of trackers:

Phoebus,  I haven't tried the web-based version of DVDProfiler yet.  But since I'm planning to put my list online, I'll go and try it out sometime.  Let me get back to you on that.

LokeyMD You own more DVDs than I do and I still need DVDProfiler to keep track of all my discs! Grin

You have to go to their site and download the software. It would really make your life easier.

It looks good, it has the feature that's missing from DVDProfiler (separate "Owned" titles from "Wishlist" titles) and so far it's free! Thanks.

What is lacking here is a good online help function for newbies. I had a lot of figuring out to do in order to add titles to my list.

I'd recommend DVDaficionado and DVDProfiler over DVDtracker since they're free. DVDgurl is one of the lucky few who can afford to use DVDTracker.

Phoebus, if you modify a DVD's info in DVD tracker, does that change its info on the database located on the website (like a contributor?) or the modification is just limited to your particular collection Huh

Thanks.

You may have received an e-mail from the DVDAficionado webnmaster explaining whey they are down.  Anyway, I think he said they will be down for about 2-3 weeks.

viper I'm assuming you're talking about DVD Profiler? The changes only get reflected in their database when you upload your modified DVD profiles to their database and if they approve of it. If not, it only affects your local profiles.

Mondavi Hello and welcome to PinoyDVD! Yup, I got that email as well. In the meantime I've been tracking my purchases with DVDProfiler. It's not that fun since I think DVDAficionado is better and easier to use than DVDProfiler. 2 weeks is a long time man!

Just uploaded my collection to DVDProfiler. Now, if I can edit the region codes without affecting the master dbase...hmmm Huh

viper I don't think you'll be affecting the master database unless you use the Contribute DVD Profile function. Besides, if I'm not mistaken, they screen the profile contributions before updating the database.

Good news to all subscribers of DVDaficionado! It's back online (or at least partially).

The www.dvdaficionado.com url is still not working though. It should be fully operational in a few days.

Meantime, we can access our collection by entering this IP address in our browsers:

http://66.80.42.251/

Here's the temporary home of my collection:

Yup, it also works for me, a little low-tech than the DVD Profiler, but hey, it keeps my private collection only to myself (hehehe)

I used MS Access for my LD Collection and it was a natural progression to use it for my DVD Collection.

I simplified the fields to Title, 3 Actors, Director, Purchase Date, Price, Region.

Still have to look more closely at online trackers.
