Comparing the discs with what's posted at Amazon, I'd say YES.

Saw one at Astro here in SM Sucat for P999.  2-disc ws anamorphic on amaray.  Very tempting to get. 3.5 hours of documentary on the making.    But if this will be included in the DVD release this April, I'll just wait.  Special making-of features are essentially production diaries.

Is there anyone who bought the r3 of this? Is it as good as the r1 release? I meant picture quality and content wise not the  surface flash

Yes, it is. I have the discs, and content-wise, they're identical to the R1 based on online sources.

Picture quality is what you'd expect from video camera-shot footage. Picture quality looks more like an episode of "Survivor" than that of a film or an episodic series.

I suggest you getting the VCD and wait for the King Kong (2005) release which might include the Production DVD.

Knowing what Peter Jackson did with the LOTR series DVD, I doubt if he'll include these Production Diaries in the King Kong DVD.  The special features of the 2disc releases of LOTR are not included in the EEs.

Jackson has a penchant for tempting the buyers to get all releases.

If you REALLY want to know how the movie was made then it's worth it but if just for collecting sake, nope.

I personally found it amusing at first, then got bored with it after about half an hour of continuous viewing. I think it's okay to watch part by part, since that's how the episodes on this 2 disc set were presented online in the first place. Some of the documentaries are cute, some informative, some totally useless. I stopped watching after about an hour's worth, with intention to resume at a later time, but I never have.

I think it's more a must-buy if you're a die-hard Peter Jackson fan or you really want to know the ins and outs of filming an effects-filled action film. But if you're just a casual moviegoer, then I think you can skip it. You won't feel it was worth the 4 hours of your life it took away.
