I remember the 1st dvd I bought was Les Miserables - In Concert, got from Reel. I think I even paid full price for it (about $20) but got a shipping rebate from Brandsforless.

Anyone remember what your first dvd purchase was? where you bought it? and how much you paid?   Smiley

My first DVDs:

The Matrix (Jump-started my interest in DVD)
Ronin (De Niro rulez!)
Lost in Space (mainly interested on Apollo 4-14's video and music) Smiley

All Region 1 bought around November 1999...English Films Shop, Zurich, Switzerland...$80+ total

Like I mentioned on the other thread, mine is "The Matrix".  It was the first time I ever tried out what DVD was all about and I was pretty much blown away. Several audio tracks? Making of featurettes? Hidden features? Unbelievably clear picture and interactive menus?  It was all new to me and I couldn't believe they fit it all in just one small disc.  I knew then that I was hooked. Hooked Bad.

As for me? Read Komikero's post again. Grin.

Like him, I bought the DVD even BEFORE I bought the player.

The Matrix, of course.  I bought it as soon as I got my DVD system.  I mean, who wouldn't have The Matrix in their DVD collection?  Cheesy

The 2nd disc I got is The Negotiator.

Boogie Nights and The City of Lost Children. Both really important for me because a) Boogie Nights is a movie I love to death, and when I saw the superior quality of DVD to LD and the bonus features, I was sold; and b) getting The City of Lost Children made me realize what an opportunity it was to get rare movies on DVD. It was the Matrix that made me want to buy a DVD player, but it wasn't my first. I was in Price Club in the US where I bumped into a cheapy Shawshank Redemption (well, not that cheapy anymore because the R3 is sooo cheap). It's one of my favorite movies (#3 at the imdb... you can't go wrong Smiley) It's not wussy for a man to cry  Cry hehe

Like many others, my first DVD was an R3 copy of The Matrix. Which caused me problems when I failed to hack the regional coding on my iMac DV, and got stuck on Region 1 for good.

Lucky for me, my friend had a Region 1 copy of The Matrix, and since he has a multi-region player he agreed to swap discs with me.

The X-Files Movie was the 2nd DVD I bought. The next two were Aliens and The Usual Suspects.

The Matrix! Loved this film to death, and it's what started my DVD habit. Actually, I had my first DVD player before this was released, but I used it mainly for pirated VCDs which I used to buy off the streets of Hong Kong. First 2 VCDs I ever viewed on my player were The Mummy and Lock, Stock, and 2 Smoking Barrels - the latter being such a lousy hack job that it was missing the last 10 minutes.

First DVD I bought was WOODSTOCK Director's Cut.

Followed by Road Warrior, The Thing, The Exorcist (all from Astrovision ,good price!), 5 more from Singapore, plus 4 more form Amazon...

...before I bought a DVD player!! ( I was canvassing for a good DVD player kasi, besides I,ve seen most of these films, I just want to collect them)

Now I have a DVD player, it was worth the wait and my collection will still grow.

I was in fact thinking of buying Amadeus with Woodstock then, but I hesitated.

Alas! Astrovision don't have it anymore.

Has any of you seen one lately?

Mine would have to be the Director's Cut of Blade Runner, what can I say, Harrison Ford rules.  This is one of the best sci-fi flicks of our time.  Now if only Mr. Lucas will release the Indiana Jones trilogy and the long awaited story from a long time ago in a galaxy far far away...

I got Jawbreaker Shocked as a "freebie" for buying my Player. Technically, the first one I bought is a R1 Matrix.

The first DVD I bought was The Matrix 850.00 at Astrovision.,During that time im still using my prologic AV Receiver and thats why it triggered me to upgrade my ONKYO Dolby Prologic AV Receiver to a YAMAHA RX-V995 with built-in Dolby Digital and DTS Decoder.. Im really satisfied with that film specially "the Shooting at the lobby" it sounds great! Shocked;D

Of course...  Wedding Singer.  Favorite ko iyon kaya iyon ang code ko eh.  Kiss

I also got COral Sea Dreaming to make my TV into an electronic aquarium.  Though its far from a real aquarium but at least no hassles and cost of maintaining an aquarium, especially during brownouts or leaving the house for a vacation.  Plus it features aquamarine lifeforms that you would not or cannot place in your acquarium. Smiley

My first DVD though was Matrix (R3) which came in free with my first DVD player.  Cool
