The relevant thread for R1 releases indicated the release of this film on DVD soon.  Hope this also gets released in R3 here considering our predominantly Chirstian populace.  Hope someone would post some news about its release locally.  For sure it would come after its local theatrical release.  But even that i think still has no dates.

I will be purchasing one, but I like it to be an R1 version.  I really like this kind of film to be made in USA packaging.

I hope they include Diane Sawyer's interview with Mel Gibson as an extra. It's currently available as a separate release for US$15.

20th Century Fox announced that the R1 version of The Passion of the Christ will be released on August 31, 2004.  According to Digital Bits, looks like this release will have very few extras (if any) and "a more elaborate special edition release is in the works, for a possible Easter 2005 release".

Any chance for a similar release date for the R3 here in the Philippines?   Huh

Know how well the movie was received in the Phils, perhaps the release date for R1 could be the same for R3.

Mel Gibson had some supposedly controversial views regarding Christianity -- and Diane Sawyer reportedly gave him a hard time.

And just to formally announce this, The Passion of the Christ will be released in Region 3 by Fox and Viva Video in August. Exact date, features, and pricing details to follow.

well, speculation or not, that's what I'm going to wait for. This barebones version just doesn't appeal to me in any way. I'm in no hurry anyway to buy the DVD since the graphic scenes from the theater are still very clear in my mind til now  Grin

The only problem with our Video Production in VIVA is when we are releasing locally, The DVD's are Modified to much. Thus, they are modifying contents, Well, I just noticed and ITS now LOCALLY manufactured not like MAGNAVISION AND WARNER that they import DVD's from TAIWAN..

Just to clarify, I was told during my last meeting with Viva that the Fox titles are still imports. Only the packaging is produced locally. Same thing with Buena Vista and Disney releases.

Only Tagalog  films and cross-licensed titles with local distributors like Jemah and Skyfilms are authored locally.

Question...
Do you have meeting with VIVA regularly?
Kasi yung mga managers namin my meeting every month for the product presentation on the releases not just for VIVA and Other companies also.
Kilala mo ba si Sir. Francis? GM namin yun..

Thank you! Smiley

Nope, not with Francis. I talk to the Viva Brand Managers for Disney and Fox. We communicate when there's an upcoming big release from the studios and it's confirmed that a Region 3 version will be available. Same thing with Warner and Magna.

Even the Region 1 release has no appeal in terms of features.  I will wait for the Special Edition.  I am curious with the making if there is any. Shocked
