Oh, I see.  Thanks Mr. Hankey.  So theatrical release muna.  This time I suppose there'd be more kids who'll watch this together with their parents.   It stayed at the box office as no.1 last year, twice, before and during Holy Week.    Maybe it will have another stint at the box office.  Then Mel Gibson can release this tame version with special features by August.  I'll certainly get a copy.  Then a year later, he'll re-release the first version with more features -a director's cut.  Excellent marketing.  He's raked in hundred of mllions already for a measly $25M budgeted film, becoming No 16 in the All-Time Top 100 Box office list if I recall right.  With 4 Oscar nominations, the film could still get a higher re-release gross receipts.   He may have started with the noblest of intentions.  Now he's milking the cow.  Just like any other hollywood director/producer.  That doesn't change my high regard for the film though.

Malabo na siguro.

News reports have it that the new version, entitled "The Passion Recut", has not been doing very well.

From christianpost.com:

Passion Recut Opens To Empty Theaters
Monday, Mar. 14, 2005 Posted: 6:29:25PM EST

Although edited in hopes of attracting a wider audience, Mel Gibson's "The Passion Re-cut" opened to mostly empty theaters this weekend, having an average of less than ten people per showing. The film, which grossed $370 million last year, pulled in a meager $239,850 despite playing in nearly 960 theaters.

Gibson said he recut the movie for people who were put off by the brutality of the original, which explicitly depicted Christ's scourging and crucifixion. But the fact that the original is available on DVD has limited theatrical prospects for the recut edition.

The head of distribution for Newmarket Films, which released the original and recut versions, expressed disappointment, but said he hopes more movie-goers will turn out as Easter approaches.

On the life of Chirst, it is the most initmate, realistic  and most profound.  Cinematically, it can rank among the greatest movies ever made for such a small budget.

I guess people have a natural disinterest for sanitized versions.

Maybe it will have an alternate ending! Joke!  Smiley

But seriously though, I hope they do release a feature-loaded DVD in the near future.
