Superman the Movie (HD DVD)

For a late 70s movie, I could say this one looks very good despite the occasional grain.  A definite upgrade over the previous versions Ive seen.  Also my first time to see the extended cut.  Smiley

Miami Vice (HD DVD)

Its like watching an extended version of a cop-based reality show.  But i do like the ending gun battle scenes....the visual style of Michael Mann made that so real to me.  PQ wise...its so-so.....outdoor night scenes are littered with video noise and grain.....while the three dimensionality you love with HD is inconsistent.....audio side though doesnt dissapoint as DD+ delivers.... Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut

For me, it does feel like an entirely new version....save for some scenes.  I do feel too that they may have done better not including some screen tests scenes...especially those scenes were Kent's hair is obviously different the next frame shot, and that really felt what highdefdigest would say as "Frankensteining".   PQ-wise...three dimensionality is in full effect especially in closely shot scenes.  The plaster that engulf Gene Hackman's head playing the bald Luthor is so noticeable, pati yung sa patilya.   Some CGI though is really phony.  Overall, will take this one over Lester's cut.  It aint cheesy.....unlike Lester's.  Grin Grin

The Descent

I didn't watched this at the movie theaters since the American release was altered from the European release. -That's why I have to get the BD version to see the film in it's original/unaltered state.
The BD version features both the original unrated cut as well as the rated version. It has the 6.1 LPCM, DD 5.1 EX and AVC transfer.

It's a good transfer but not considered as a reference material for me. Colors are somewhat subdued to give a gloomy/dark effect. A lot of the scenes were shot in the dark- underground places - which makes some of the scenes grainy. SQ is very good! I suggest that you have to watch the unrated version first- as it was intended - then watch the rated version's ending scene/chapter  - to see the difference. A very good scary - edge of your seat movie to watch with friends..

Oh yeah! - Natalie Mendoza is HOT!!!  Shocked

Hulk (HD DVD)

Definitely a top-tier for me as far as PQ is concerned.  Texture and details is tops.  You could actually swear that Jeniffer Connely used some heavy make-up in some scenes....and oh yes, she needs some lip balm too!!!!  Audio quality of Dolby Digital Plus is definitely no slouch.....and at a healthy 1.5mbps, every stomp and destruction is well heard.  You wont feel much high about the story...but if you want some demo material for HD....this is it.  Grin Grin Grin

World Trade Center (HD DVD)

Great release from Paramount....still have to see the special features in HD.  We get to see 9/11 this time from a different perspective...from two survivors, buried deep down the rubble.  Great call by Stone...no political, theories here....PQ-wise, looks real good.  Grin Grin

Crank

If you are into mindless action movies - this one's for you! From Lionsgate, Crank's  PQ is very good. It has some sharp and crisp scenes as well.  At 1.85:1 ratio, it fill's up your screen.

What's interesting for SQ is that it has 6.1 LPCM as stated on the back cover but the display on the PS3 reads 7.1 PCM at 6.4Mbps. I have to listen to the surround back  speakers to confirm it - and yes it does have!

Also, it is the first Blu-ray that comes with a jacket /sleeve cover.

Pchin, Desert battle - near the ending. Showdown between Dirk Pitt and Gen. Zatib. That's one scene I can think of.

Cheers!

Fearless (HD DVD)

Not a top tier in terms of PQ, but definitely very good.  Vibrant colors abound as you would expect in most  Chinese movies coming to Hollywood nowadays.  Audio is where I believe this title is top notch.  Surround is very active in fight scenes, along with tight LFEs.  The swordplay, the breaking bones, the body blows, and clear dialogue...all these exhibited fine audio presentation in DD 5.1.  Story was great too......great film to watch with friends over SML...just like we did last night.  Grin Grin Grin

Eagles:  Farewell Tour Live in Melbourne (HD DVD)

Watched this again with friends.  Short on time, we cued up on their hit songs The New Kid in Town, I Can't Tell You Why, Love will Keep Us Alive, Hotel California and Desperado.  Great concert....a must own for HD fans looking to beef up their library.  You'll definitely sing along with Hotel California... Pear Harbor (Blu-Ray)
A visual and audio feast! A must have for the early HD adopters! Excellent PQ and SQ at 5.1 LPCM- 48KHz, 6.9Mbs. Audience will be immersed in a transparent 360 degree sound effects specially during the battle scenes. Also a great LFE workout for you subwoofer. Id you listen carefully, you can distinguish the engine whines/sound of the American P40s, Japanese Zero, the British Spitfire and and the German MEs..
Favorite Scene: Chapter 21: Hostility Imminent

Resident Evil: Apocalypse (Blu ray)
Another excellent disc! Very good picture quality as well as the audio. Another disc to own if you're into audio. Features incudes deleted scenes, commentaries and Blu Wizard.
Favorite Scene: Church scene and City Hall Scene
