he XBox 360 HD DVD Player will connect to Windows Vista-based workstations via USB as both a data drive as well as a HD-DVD video player. (with appropriate HD DVD playback software like Intervideo, etc.)

Is this good news to HTPC users or what?

What's the difference of this drive with the xbox 360 drive?  And how does it work with the 360, as a replacement/extension drive?  Not familiar yet with the details, but thinking of getting one as this is for HD-DVD related, as against to PS3 w/c is blu-ray.

It's an extension drive. Can hook it up to your 360 or PC.

Xbox 360's built-in drive is just a dvd-rom.

Does it need a high end rig to run HD-DVDs?  What's the minimum specs of your PC for this to run?

The xbox internal drive is DVD-ROM meant for games.  The HD DVD drive is meant for movies - MS answer to the threat of the PS3's BD drive.  Eventually MS may come out with a 360 with internal HD DVD drive rumoured next year.

Thanks av_phile! Sounds like a lot of moolah to upgrade your rig to be HD-DVD compliant.  Undecided
