My boxsets are in a display cabinet beside my HT gear and those in regular DVD cases are arranged alphabetically to search titles easily.

I'm a beginner in DVD arrangement.  I arrange mine by classification.

1 side whole original DVD cartoons ( Walt Disney, etc.,)
1 side whole concerts
1 side the rest whether drama, action, comedy, etc.

Hiwalay sila sa mga pirated copies ko.

My collection is stored in those plastic sliding boxes you can buy at the malls and I stacked them up into 8 levels(can fit 32-36 DVDs each).

I classify them by the ff:
Action/Thriller
Suspense/Drama
Fantasy/Adventure
Sci-fi & Anime
Comedy/Musical
Local & Foreign
Family/Disney & Cartoons
Concerts/Demo discs & Special Interest
Movie Series (e.g. James Bond, Jack Ryan)
TV/Movie Boxed Sets

My collection isn't as extensive as compared to a lot of people here but i arrange them this way....

Concerts / Musicals
Fantasy / Science Fiction
Action / Comedy
Drama

PLUS ...

All the Warner dvds are grouped together w/o the genre classification because of the snap case that they use which i totally hate  Angry  since it is so much harder to take care of.

My DVDs are stored in clear plastic sleeves (courtesy of ma'am diver  Smiley) to protect the cases from dust and scratches.

As to the arrangement, i may be starting to give up on this because of the countless times i have re-arranged my dvds!!! dati alphabetical... tapos naging chronological... tapos by manufacturer... naging by color scheme pa yata eh...

As of my last check, by genre yata sila nakaayos ngayon...

- Fiction (i.e. LOTR, Star Wars)
- Action (i.e. Spiderman, Daredevil)
- War (i.e Black Hawk Down, We Were Soldiers)
- Cartoons (i.e. Toy Story 2-pack, Ice Age)
- Concerts (i.e. The Corrs, Josh Groban, Destiny's Child)
- "Others" (eto yung mga hindi bagay itabi dun sa iba, hehe)

To think na wala pang 40 pcs yung collection ko!!! Grin

I suppose arranging our dvds is more of an art than an exact science.  Smiley

the best is to arrange your dvd by genre. then make a masterlist of the dvd you already have para madali mo lang ma retrieve yung movie na gusto mong panoorin. You might as well put label or sticker sa tabi ng title para ma identify mo agad. hope this helps. Smiley

I sort and arrange mine as fallows - Box Sets together, Snap Cases or warner releases together too, and the rest of keepcases are sorted by live action movies alphabetically, cartoons and animes are stock together also and same as for concerts.

Now Im considering arranging them by genre, but I have a question what do you do if a certain title have cross genre, how do you sort that out?  What genre do you prioritize?

I had a DVD rack custom made to fit in the side of my HT room which can hold up to 100 DVDs per row x 4 rows.

I tried arranging it in alphabetical order but then when a new DVD arrives lipat na ang dulo ng DVD ng row 1 sa row 2 and the others follow.  Toxic talaga!

As of now:  Single discs in alphabetical order, boxed sets are separate.

Maybe I will let go of the alphabetical thingie and add the new ones at the end of the last DVD bought.  Tama na ang ka-oc-ocan! Angry

according to the size of the casing.

Agree akoh 'jan!

Funny how relevant this is as I am making a catalogue of my DVD collection!  Peroh at the same time categorised.  Box sets with box sets mapa-Godfather or South Park, magkaka-dikit ang mgah 'yan!  Tanging separate lang ay ang music DVDs e.g. Jamiroquai Live at Verona, Simply Red GH,  etc.  Alphabetical, syempreh!

Book shelves are the best and more economic place to keep them (or display them)... vertically!  I make sure too that I only open the original plastic wrapper from either the top or bottom so I can insert them again... making them look "for sale" ...of course, mahirap gawin itoh with the shrinkwrapped DVDs, pwerah nah lang with the Forrest Gump and Supergirl Ltd. Ed. 2-DVD sets nah one inch thick ang width.

So far I have 325 titles, including all individual DVDs of Friends which came as 8 episodes per DVD from Seasons 1 to 6 then 4 episodes per DVD from Seasons 7 to 9!

You mean you don't remove the plastic wrapping totally?  I considered doing that before when I was just starting to collect DVD's but I realize that I won't be able to appreciate it totally the packaging atleast with the plastic wrapping still on.  Ginawa ko nalang sa mga Warner Snapcases ko I covered it with plasic cover kasi snappers are the most vulnerable sa wear and tear.

I sort them into three groups above my built-in shelf above my tv(way up where my kid won't be able to reach). Kids(cartoons, disney..), special releases(2-disc, EE, Box sets...), and ordinary releases.

For me, arranged muna sila by 4 categories: Cartoons (animation), Musicals, Sets and others.  After that, alphabetical na siya, although may set ako na magkasama sama ang keep case at snapper case.

Hirap talaga ma-explain, but that's how I arrange my DVDs.  Grin  Grin  Grin

Me I have two places for them. One is a closed cabinet,  it has 3 shelves and I arrange them by Genre and this is where I keep all my original discs where no one can see. The other is a 5 foot tower originally for VHS tapes, kasya 2 discs per VHS slot. This I keep on display with all my not so original (P*****d) . So every time friends and family come by and check out my collection it's not very hard to say no if they want to borrow them.

Four shelves, in roughly descending order.
First shelf, yung mga pinakamahal kong pelikula't direktor regardless of genre - - -Takeshi Kitano, Takashi Miike, Wongkarwai, Aliens, Repoman ,Citizen Kane, etc .
Second shelf, yung mga TV series at Box Sets - - - NYPD Blue, Cowboy Bebop.
Third shelf, yung mga Asian , mga B movies at sari-saring art films.
Fourth shelf, exclusive to the Hollywood stuff I like - - - Minority Report, Rushmore, etc.
The Warner snapcases nakakahon regardless of Region.
Ditto with the R3 Asian films.
At the rate things are going, mukhang kailangan ko pa ng mor shelf space.

As soon as I get my dream room where I can set up all my 'gadgets' (i.e HT, computer, books, toys and DVDs, pati na rin VCDs and VHS), the DVDs shall be arranged according to genre-comedy, war, drama, pinoy, xxx)
