Alphabetically, para madali mag-locate ng title. I try to keep some free space sa shelves though, para pag may bagong dagdag, it's easier to insert sa collection and not have to move everything  Wink

Alphabetical for now but once I get a lot of DVD's, it would be by director (directors are alphabetically arranged of course and the films under each director is alphabetically arranged).

I planned to arranged it by movie classification.(eg. action/epic/drama/comedy etc.) then prepare a list for directory.

konti pa lang naman collection ko so madali lang ayusin  Roll Eyes  naka-separate ang mga medyo malalaking dvds (24, LOTR trilogy, KFH LE, 2046 LE...) sa mga regular dvds in aramay cases, digipacks.... both are in alphabetical order para madaling hanapin

and of course, naka-separate din ang mga Jun Ji-Hyun movies
5 movies lang naman eh  Cool

i have a 3-layer aluminum-glass shelf attached to a wall & a 4-layer plyboard shelf (floor stander), both custom built to store my DVD collection, & i have arranged them in the following order:

a) all my academy award winning best pictures (from present then backwards)
b) AFI Top 100 Films (from no. 1 to no. 100, except best pics)
c) criterion coll. DVDs (from no. 1 onwards, except best pics & AFI Top 100)
d) animation DVDs (disney tins first, then regular disneys, other animation)
e) classics (from the oldest)
f) sci-fi (box sets first then individual releases)
g) war & the military (WW II-europe, WW II-pacific, US civil war, assorted)
h) western (from the oldest)
i) all superbit DVDs
j) action adventure (all james bond movies first, then by actors)
k) horror/suspense/thriller
l) kids & children (not animation)
m) comedy (by actors)
n) romantic comedy (by actors)
o) drama (by directors or by actors)
p) musical
q) world cinema (non-criterion DVDs)
r) concert DVDs
s) p****ted DVDs (same sequence) Grin

if they belong to the same category (i.e. by actors or by directors) or in the absence thereof, i arranged them by year of production (from oldest to present) Cool

I have a modest collection so arrangement isn't a problem yet. Here's how I arrange them:

The p*****d ones, I keep hidden and I'm actually starting to give those up to my friends
The originals I arrange according to their box office successes in the US from left to right, with the leftmost, the highest grossing movie. That's why I always check IMDB everytime I buy a DVD to see how I will place it in my mini-library. Hindi nga maalis sa leftmost side iyong Titanic samanatalang iyong rightmost eh pabago-bago. Isinama ko na iyong concert and Tagalog DVDs doon at sila iyong nagpapalit-palit sa rightmost side. When my collection was a lot smaller, I usually watch my DVDs from right to left. I start out with the lowest-grossing going to the highest grossing.
I only have 1 boxed-set and that's Star Wars Trilogy. I was tempted to include the individual DVDs to the general population but decided instead to keep them in the box and display it on its own on a small round table beside my library. Smiley

8. magic (david blaine, criss angel, david copperfield)
9. mind-messers (memento, pi, donnie darko etc)
10. music (sting, boyzIImen, mtv unplugged)
11. superheroes/comicbook ( batman/s, superman/s, x-men/s etc)

Yeah me too, some people do not understand why I arrange my DVD's this way.

To me it makes things simpler & neat. Especially since DVD's from the same studio usually have uniform packaging.

I do not arrange films by genre because some movies are mixed like Action/Adventure, Action/Fantasy, Action/Thriller Ek Ek! It becomes very confusing.

I think arranging your discs by genre is the most convenient for me. This way, I can just simply go to the specific genre that I feel like watching at that instant.

Of course its a problem when your collection grows and you need to move discs around to accommodate new titles.

i started with the boxed sets (tv series, movie anthologies)
followed by movie anthologies that are not in boxed set, but excluding animations/for kids
then by actor. after all titles of the actor are consumed, i look for common actors, then proceed with the arrangement (e.g. bruce willis -- unbreakable, fifth element, armageddon followed by pearl harbor [common actor: ben affleck])
followed by dramas (not mine, of course  Grin)
comedy, the animation, then for kids.

on the other rack, special interests and rated "R" titles.

Now make it around 20+ shelves/racks of around 30-40 DVDs each. Still arranged by genre (14).
