ive read in other forums that in order to use the hdmi for ps3 your monitor should have a true hdcp hdmi or dvi compatibility. yng 1080p in monitors it depends on monitors. kapag me 1:1 mapping magkakaron ng black bars sa side pero 1080p. kng ala 1:1 mapping nakastretch ng kaunti.

question lang po:

I have an LCD TV which can do 720p (native)/1080i. The HDMI version on this unit is 1.1.

My question is since PS3 uses 1.3 version HDMI, does it mean I can't use my TV with it, using HDMI as the connector?

TIA

I think you still can.  HDMI 1.3 does evrything that HDMI 1.1 can.  Same physical cable and pinning but different throughput.  You just won't be able to maximize HDMI capability from the PS3.  But no matter, the only promise of HDMI 1.3 is a higher bandwidth,  color space and allowing DolbyTrueHD and DTS-HD to pass through.  No HDTV sets or receiver can process these codecs today anyway.   But I am talking only based on paper specs.  Someone with actual experience on HDMI 1.3 downward compatibility should b able to confirm this.

I can try to call Sony Japan Customer Service for information but you'd have to give me full details of your LCD (make and model) dahil baka meron silang "black list".  It appears the PS3 has issues with generic, non-Japanese and older gen LCDs, DLPs and Plasmas.

It will work just fine. It will not just have the features of HDMI 1.3 standard but you will enjoy all the benefits of the 1.1 std.

Yes, they will play with the Japanese version. They are both included in region A which includes Japan,USA  and the rest of Asia except China. The difference is basically the input voltage.

@alvinthx2
US or JP PS3 mo? Can you confirm if movies follows country region for Blu-ray?

I get mine from amazon. Aside from the discounted prices, you get an additional 10% discount for all the HD titles that you buy after a certain number of movies purchased. It takes around 12 to 15 days for the titles to arrive. Cost may vary from 1000 to 1500 pesos which is way cheaper than those being sold locally.

Just buy the generic hdmi to hdmi cable as long as it will not be more than 5 meters. 1.1 and 1.3 are HDMI standards (features and capabilities)and are in no way related to the actual cable. You will need just 1 cable for both audio and video if your TV has a HDMI input.
