Generic DVD Player that can upscale to 720p/1080i
« on: Jan 04, 2007 at 06:17 AM »
Does anyone know of any such Generic DVD player that can upscale to 720p/1080i? I want to go the generic brand because they are not picky when playing p****** DVDs. Branded players have a hard time playing these DVDs.... or can the new branded players handle p******* DVDs already?

With your pt ae 1000, you should at least use a dvd player with HDMI or DVI output. You want a player that can output 480i (yes interlaced) via its digital output. The ae1000 has an excellent scaler deinterlacer built in.

Consider the ff:

oppo digital
970
971
981

pioneer
s969
s989

Denon 2930
3930
5910
STORMAUDIORevel,BAT,VPI,Accuphase,Bryston,Lumagen,Esoteric,PMC,AR,ROON,PURIFI,BENCHMARK,JBL

err bro, its not me who would be using the generic dvd player. Actually its my friend who is asking about this.  Madami kasing nakikigamit ng account ko as tamad silang mag register. Anyway im logged in naman sa pinoydvd so i just let them browse and ask questions using my account.

i think what he wants is just a basic dvd player that can reliably play all p* DVDs and can further upscale to 720p/1080i. i believe his budget is around 5K-8K for the player.

Main consideration would be the ability to play p* discs which is why he is using nextbase. (i am the one who convinced him to get a new dvd player that can upscale). He only agreed if that new player would be as good as his nextbase in playing p* dvds. (he has the white nextbase dvd ... yung bago na tig 3k to 4K yata yun)

=)

Pioneers are not picky, though from time to time you may encounter some p-disks that you can't play. What I do with these p-disks that I can't play with my Pioneer is return and exchange them. So it helps if you have a suki where you regularly buy from. ;D

With a budget of 5K-8K, get the Pio696 or other branded ones of equal quality and performance.

@pinoyako:

Where can I see your ads? I looked at your previous post and the only one I see are "specs" for the Mediacom Karaoke. Can you post specs of the 2 upscaling players you mentioned?

I checked out tipid-pc but the mediacom player is just a karaoke player.  Do you really have upscaling player with hdmi? :)

I have the pioneer DV490V, it can handle the most difficult disks
(couldn't play on the much older pioneer DV515).  It's P6K, and
upconverts via hdmi to 720p/1080i.
My Oppo 971 can also handle difficult disks, it can upconvert
to 720p/1080i via dvi.
The Xenon 840 (480p?) which I returned couldn't even read those
difficult disks the 490V was able to.

Hi, can u explain why you would want a 480i output via hdmi?  I would
have assumed to output to the projector's native resolution.

He probably prefers a player that outputs the source DVD exactly as it was encoded so that the projector's processor can start its scaling duties with the purest unprocessed signal.

When it upconverts, does it upconvert all sources including DivX ?

Hi.  Please check my posts in the Karaoke thread.  Am confused if the upscaling works, though the PJ recognizes the signal of this player at 720P and 1080i, off ang colors like out of sync sya, fleshtones become blue.

Kindly scroll down to the posts with the screenshots. The menu system is much the same as that of the Helios H4000. Promac KTV200 ata yung karaoke ko.

Check this out.  I'm quite confused about my Promac's capability to upscale but based on the pics below, the PJ is basically confirming upscaling of this karaoke player thru component  :o with the pics below:

On 480i thru component, the component cables are plugged just the way we normally plug it thru the YPbPr color coded inputs, outputs the correct colors thru my pj, but on progressive, red and blue are somewhat interchanged.

On 480P, 720P, and 1080i, the red and the blue cable have to be interchanged to display the correct colors :-\ :o, strange as it is, ganun ginawa ko.

I can not see improvements in PQ though since my PJ is 480P only.

Ano ba ito ;D, PROMAC karaoke users, paki validate naman ;D ;D.

Here is my player, Promac KTV200

Mediacom is the BEST...Kaya nga iyong sa amin na binili pa sa Dubai last 2005. Bumigay na last month, still has the power but unable to read or play any kind of disc (CD, CDR, DVD, DVDR, MP3, HDCD, VCD and even the Mediacom Karaoke DVD).  Maiinis at maiinip ka sa paghihintay dahil naka-tulog ka nang lahat hindi pa rin nito mai-play iyong disc na isinalang mo,kahit pa sabihin original dvd or audio-cd ang material.  I bought a Philips DVD625K last December 2003.
