The R3 Extended Cut is now available locally for 895 bucks. I saw this in Astro SM Makati just a while ago. Encased in a metal foil cardboard slipcase. Artwork is similar to the R1 version which will be released in April.

Was also surprised when I saw this in Astro.  Nice packaging but I am not sure if it mirrors R1.

Yup. Saw this one in Astro Makati as well. But, I was able to resist the urge. I'll probably buy the R1 since my  Spider-Man 2 is already R3.

Astroplus Podium has three copies.  I got the impression that only a limited number of copies were imported.   Grin

Oo nga e. I literally visited all video stores (even NBS) in Makati yesterday pero sa Astro SM ko lang talaga nakita. Also went to Festival Mall and ATC pero wala rin dun. Looks like this will be a very limited release. I guess I really don't care since I'll buy the R1 version instead.

Got mine at Astro in Virra Mall.

The weird thing is, disc 2's (special features) menu was in pure Japanese. There was absolutely no options for English. Even the subtitles didn't contain an English option. Thankfully, the feature videos themselves are in English.

Disc 1 is okay as far as English language option is concerend. I'm not even sure if I should have disc 2 returned. Should I?

Chances are, the replacement disc would be the same. But I guess there's no harm in trying.

allanmandy is right, it'll be futile. I bought the last copy of Spider-Man 2.1 at Astro V-Mall today, and my Disc Two menus are also completely in Japanese.

Is this a bad thing, though? I guess most that it's doing is bug the hell out of me. Last I remember this happening is with the R3 Animatrix DVD's commentary track being completely in Japanese as well. In that case, Warner didn't lift a finger to replace the discs. (of course, having the menus in Japanese is less annoying, but still...)

Hmmm..probably..it must be one of those multi-region DVDs that the menus on region free players plays on the default setting. Wink

To those who have a copy, kindly set your players to either region 3/region 1 and wait for changes, another way is to place it on you desktop, open via WMP, and check out the contents of each titles, the english menu, must be there somewhere. Cool Kiss

Alfie's right.

Although the default setting for Disc Menu on my DVD players is set to English, this disc comes out with Japanese menus on all of them. All are either region-free or region-hacked (by the local distributor themselves). The disc doesn't play on my Region 1-locked player.

When I placed the disc in my DVD-Rom drive, I found out that it was locked to Regions 2-3-4. The menu screens still came up in Japanese. But when I seached the Video File folder, I actually found this:

Question is: how do I make that show up on any of my DVD players? I've searched the player menus, and haven't found options to set them to Region 3, like Alfie suggested.

For Pioneer Dv-696AV-S; click and learn: http://www.pioneerfaq.info/english/dv696.php?player=DV-696AV&question=Multiregion
For Philips 5500S:
Quote
Power up DVD player.
Make sure there's no disc loaded inside the tray.
Then go to the system menu, select preferences.
Enter 135566 with your remote and press ok.
A region code selection will appear. Press up or down to select 0.
Press ok and you now have a multi-region player..

For me, with my Pioneer player; I'd rather maintain the status quo on my player being region free, since, I find the Pioneer Hack, a tad complicated for me, however, with the Philips, it's reversible, you can tinker and play with it all you want.  Wink

BTW, you can always watch it on your desktop, especially now, the trend is to have a PC attached to your flat panel/Front Projector. Wink

It's efficient, no hassles and with the recent downward spiral of the prices of processors and motherboards, for a videophile, it's highly recommended that you have a HTPC attached(Cheaper than getting a high end DVD player, and easily upgradeable to HDDVD/Blu Ray).
Think about it, it will feel good watching all those OGM/Matroska files without any hassles such as a missing/dropped audio, or unreadable subs. Grin

wah! sa wakas nagkaroon din sa favorite astro branch ko. pero same here, Japanese din yung menus ng disc 2. hmm, panu kaya gawing english.

I also saw that in Music One Greenbelt. The packaging looks really cheap (sorry if I offend those who bought this).

The packaging seems identical to the recent Casino Royale 2 disc release, so for me, ok naman.

I think allanmandy was referring to the ugly packaging of the newly-released Spiderman 1 & 2 Boxed Set? I just assumed that's what he was referring to, since if someone considers the Spider-Man 2.1 metallic slipcase ugly, then I personally think their standards are way too high for local R3 releases.  Grin

Oh, if that is the case, I stand corrected. Nakita ko din yung boxset with Stan Lee's DVD, pangit nga yung box...

BTW, for owners of the 2.1 DVD, I have a question...

In disc 2, there is a feature called The Villains of Spider-Man 3, which, in my opinion, is much better than the Spider-Man 3 Sneak Peek. Sa case nung DVD, it was advertised as only The Villains of Spider-Man, na medyo misleading. Pero ok lang, may question is yung The Villains of Spider-Man 3 feature seems to be absent from the R1 release. Can anyone confirm this? I just based my comparissons form the recent disc specs from R1 and the features I have seen from the R3 release.
