Prices should be close to list in the US -- without the 20% to 30% discounting of online retailers like Amazon.

We are the same region as USA, so these are the same discs as we would get if we ordered from Amazon?

Yes, these are probably the same discs in terms of content. I'm not sure if they come from the same manufacturing facility though.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Magna will have the HD DVD versions of their films out anytime soon. Like Sony, they're committed to pushing the Blu-ray format here in the Philippines.

Went to Astroplus Podium today. May 2 blu-ray titles on display...The Fifth Element (not the remastered version) for P1950 & Casino Royale priced at P2300. These are the same blu-ray discs sold at Amazon. May flyer yung magnavision sa counter regarding reservations for other titles. Saw ghostrider (P1950), the patriot (P1950), tears of the sun (P1950) among other sony pictures/columbia release. Other titles like RV priced at P1650. Less P100 for those who will reserve. Also saw the same flyer at Astroplus megamall. Almost the same price as Infomaxx.

Bluer than Blu-Ray!

Just curious. If these titles will be released by Magna, are we expecting to see any stickers or some sort of print modifications that'll bear the name of Magnavision on the packaging?

My guess is it will be straight R1 import.  The bluray market is still small, and bluray owners here in the Philippines should be a pretty small base, sure there are a few PS3 sold, but most buy them for games and not even original games at that, so those using it as a movie player should be in hundreds or less.  Not enough market to warrant a new label...  just a guess...

Yeah. And don't discount the fact that HDTV's are not exactly popular home fixtures here.

Well there are no pirated games yet for the ps3 so you have to buy originals whether its a movie or game. The price though posted for titles found in astrovision are same as infomaxx which is relatively expensive. Understandable though since the installed base here in pinas is very small.

They're committed in pushing Bluray but Sony does not support PS3 here in the Philippines, the only Bluray player that is worth its high price tag.  Isn't it ironic?  They (Sony) should officially launch and support PS3 here so Bluray Movies can have an edge in terms of market share.  But they are too reluctant because of Piracy, can't blame them.

In HK the past weekend, the Spidey trilogy BD was going for HK$ 499 in the streets of Central (if you're willing to bear the crowd).
In HMV however, it's priced at HK$ 680, which roughly equates to PhP 3,800+ ... mas mura pa rin dito sa PDVD (less the hassles pa) !  Wink

Finally! There's news that Magna and Astro are cooking up a Blu-ray promo in the next couple of weeks to kick up demand on HD content. Apparently we're experiencing record flat panel sales this Christmas so Magna's hoping to cash in on some of that. Up to 30% off according to the grapevine.

Wow great news. Actually I noticed that there are a few titles that are released earlier from americas street date, which is great. An example was Blue Streak ata.. If these prices can go around 1000 to 1100, thats great pricing already imo. Of course 800 pesos would be spectacular. Smiley
