What the - - -  ?!

« on: Apr 16, 2001 at 07:11 AM »

To keep discusions topic-focused, we have merged several postings and came up with this new topic.  Postings made before 10.06.02 came from various threads before the creation of this one. --kgwd.

I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of flak about this, but what what the best episodes of Anna Liza or Flor de Luna on DVD ? Night time soap operas when I was growing up were cool and unlike the ones now that I just can't swallow. I guess I am not that naive anymore and I know now the difference between good and horrible. I hate movies and tv shows that make me feel stupid.

No flak, only agreement. I miss those soaps. You reminded me of one of the few Pinoy TV shows that I used to follow religiously as a kid: Yagit! Tongue

Yagit was pretty campy but fun. I love it too. I also would like to see Champoy, John and Marsha, Chicks to Chicks, best episodes of Lovingly Yours Helen and Kahapon Lamang. I guess chances of seing them on DVD are slim to none.  Cry

Agree, these shows are classics and finding them on DVDs are definitely veery slim. However, if there is adequate support from sponsors, a whole cable channel can be dedicated in showing all these classics for 24 hours, or it could be packaged as a premium channel with subs like us shelling extra pesos just to relive those good old days (Binata, Limang pisong baon, barkada sa escuela) Wink

Miss ko na iyon ah.  I want to watch it again sana kung may VCD o DVD na.

Do you remember pa the promo ng ABS-CBN na maghanda na ng popcorn?

Batas Militar  (a TV-docu) - I've already seen this on VHS.  gripping and informative!  You'll see Kris Aquino here innocent & cute campaigning for her dad as a grade schooler. Grin

As for Pinoy TV series I want to see in DVD:

  •  Boracay
  •  Cebu[/b]

Aired in the late 80s (I think). The former run for a season while I think Cebu had a second season.  Both were aired in RPN 9.

Both had behind the scenes and interviews of the cast & crew just before each series premiered.  I think these drama-series are the pioneer in the local television.  The producers indeed spent a lot of money just flying the cast and crew on location and these shows are far, far better than the soaps seen today. :-/  An add-on is that these series showed the beauty of the Philippine beaches! Cheesy

Speaking of 'the beauty of the Philippines', I would also love to see on DVD a docu on the Philippines, its culture and the travel spots.  Much like the Philippene Airline sponsored advertorials on TV (usually shown on PTV 4  in-between shows or during 'on-standby' moments.  These clips are so beautifully edited and the colors are just GREAT.  I never get tired seeing these clips over and over.  I've seen the MTV-type where Agot Isidro sings while the scenes take the viewers to the different parts of the Philippines (malls, beaches, restaurants, parks, etc!) with interviews of foreigners (Cameron Machintosh was there!) on why they like the Philippines.  There's another one (though rarely aired), this time about the PI as the 'golf destination' of the world.  Like the first one, it takes you to the different golf courses in Luzon, Visayas & Mindanao.  Nice sceneries and you wouldn't have guessed we have so many!  When I saw these PAL ads/primers the first time, I was awed!  You know they type of advertisements that gives you goosebumps?  That's how it felt!

Probably the Dept. of Tourism could look into the viability of producing such DVD (I know we're a poor country but it's not a secret that the government have LOTS of money!;)) .  This could give the our country a needed boost with all the bad press we've been getting, no thanks to the Abus! Angry  I'm guessing it's not an impossibility since Sec. Dick Gordon is quite radical and open to new ideas (well, at least, that's my take on his image).  But I hope if ever this DVD gets pressed, it will be available here in the country and hopefully, hindi 'presyong turista'! Roll Eyes

    Dream on! Grin

Not by Laurice Guillen. i think Gary Busey was one of the more major players considering it was a foreign production. Of course, Dina Bonnevie was a highlight  Grin

the thing I like about it is it shows the P.I. in a very rotten light. Even after "Macross" got kidnapped and taken out of the country (no, we did not exile him. America made that decision for us), the portrayal was still rotten (really, are Pinoys better off today than we were 16 years ago?)
Not the best show, but it could be worse.

Liked it anyway, the only "true(?)" document of EDSA '86. still have the original VHS/beta tape somewhere.

6 hours? 2-DVD set? dual-layer?

Other shows i want on DVD?

Uncle Bob's Lucky 7 Club

All episodes of Batibot and Sesame

Heredero

Yagit

Champoy

John and Marsha

Chicks to Chicks

T. O. D. A. S.

The Sic' O'Clock News

Bad Bananas
(?) (Is that the name? The old samahan of Edgar Mortiz, Al Tantay, Etc..)

The gag show was called "Goin' Bananas" aired on ABS-CBN.  Bad Bananas was the name of the group of the main cast.  That's where Zorayda Sanchez and Whitney Tyson got famous. Grin  I think 80s babes Monica Herrera and Angela Luz also started there.

I think the "Ano ang nasa dako paroon..." spiel came from "Pinoy Thriller".  While "Regal Shocker" came later (when "Pinoy Thriller" got popular) and  had a cheesy Kamatayan for their storyteller. Grin

And here is the latest weather report from PAG-ASA-A. PAG-ASA-A. Philippine Atmospheric, Geographical, Geological, Geophysical, Geometrical Association of Student Aviators. PAG-ASA-A.

A tropical depression entitled Luningning has been ispotted North-South-North, East-South-East, West-North-South of Batanes Island, heading towards the Manila Bay near Dewey Boulevard, right in front of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Winds will be moderate to gutsy, which ever comes first.

The temperature in the different parts of the archipelago: Manila: twenty one celsius, Makati: twenty two celsius, and in Marikina: we sell Shoes.

And before I go, here is another message from PAG-ASA-A: When you walk... through the storm... keep your head up high... and BE AFRAID of the dark. At the end of the storm... are stalactites... and stalagmites... and that may just be... your LAST NIGHT!
