Not sure if our local suppliers will ship to Cebu. At Infomax, they are selling Toshiba HD-A2 at about P20,000+

Or you can let Jeff/Nemesis91 know your interest as he intends to import Tosh 3rd Gen player

if u have an xbox 360 console then the 360 hd-dvd addon will work great for you.  that's what i did and PQ is excellent.  not only you can play and enjoy gaming but also can watch hd-dvd's.  the console will upscale it to 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p via component or vga and it also depends on your display's native resolution. it's very expensive there, you can get the toshi e1 here for half the price in manila and the xbox360 hd-dvd addon for around 9K pesos (converted na)

The wait is killing me... im leaning forward on getting the stand alone player..like u sugested, im planning on getting it from Sir Jeff but still waiting for more buyers..Im hesitant with the 360 add-on because of the over-heating issues of the unit..i dont want to get the red lights. Grin and alot of people have been warning me about it..

for now im just crossing my fingers and hoping i can get the unit from Sir Jeff soon...

Even if your 360 is having 3RL it should still run DVDs fine... lol.

Oh and the HD-DVD addon for 360 can be used on your PC and play HD-DVDs on it.

(You don't need a 360.)

I'm running an XBox360 HD-DVD expansion drive to run my HD DVD movies. Yes, it's cheaper than the standalone units. However, the XBox360 HD-DVD drive doesn't decode DTS. This was the most complained missing feature by HD-DVD enthusiasts, hence making the standalone a better choice. Last I read somewhere, an MS employee is looking into this problem. But on the other hand, HD-DVD movies that are encoded in DTS is not common. In fact, Transformers isn't even DTS. As well as 300, Batman Begins, and Enter The Dragon.

Yep, at the moment probably 95% of the HD DVDs without DTS.

So there's nothing to worry even your add-on can't decode DTS. Dolby Digital Plus is good enough na. Transformers HD DVD review scores at least 4.5 star on its audio!  Wink

Are you afraid of the red lights? Is that somthing i should really worry about? If i do get that, my add on would pretty much be useless right? except if i connect it to my pc?

chuck427, just a side note. The 360 add-on has no onboard TrueHD decorder nor multi-channel analog connections. So if audio is important to you or your existing receiver has analog input & can playback MPCM then it's worthwhile to consider a stand alone HD DVD player.

The Tosh entry level player can decode TrueHD while the higher end models have analog connections. Either way, if budget permits I'd say go for a player that can output 1080p/24 with analog connections. In this case, your equipment is future-proof na should you decide to upgrade your HDTV to a 1080p display or upgrade your AV receiver.  Wink

You can also get DTS (1.5mbps core) from the xbox 360 hd dvd add-on drive connected to your xbox 360 console using optical audio output. All video & audio codecs are processed thru the console. You can also enjoy web-enabled features found on the latest hd dvd releases like 300 & transformers when connected to the internet. It is recommended that you update your console & add-on drive to the latest firmware updates.

I am also using the hd dvd add-on drive w/ my 360 console on a 32in lcd. I was able to compare 1080i & 720p resolutions via component with a Toshiba standalone player & found no noticeable difference in picture quality. Both displayed clear & detailed video when playing hd dvds. You can also use a x360 vga cable for 1:1 pixel mapping if your lcd has a vga input.

Hello sir, I use addon as my hd player..I bought it also in datablitz, cost almost 12 thou ata, but this was months back when I bought this. If its 7,500 nalang, thats a good price already to get in hd if you have xbox360..But I would prefer a standalone. I went to Pchin's place and check out his sounds, man I want to make upgrade (receiver/speakers) and a standalone, after hearing his. I appreciate audio more now..hehe..Its very nice..The problem is my room I cant crank up the volume that much and my wife dont like loud sounds hehe...But having better receiver and speakers I think you get better detail...So thats the positive I think..

Its good to know that after months of use, ur xbox hasnt cranked out yet..gives me confidence that mine wont either..Im from Cebu and it still costs 11 thou here, with the free King Kong..it is sounding really good..if nothing else comes up, ill probably get one by the end of the month.. Grin

Since you already own a Xbox 360 console, the next logical step is the HD DVD add-on. This will be much cheaper than importing a stand alone player. Smiley
