Magnavision confirmed that it will begin releasing popular TV series collections locally. The House MD boxes will be available starting next month:
  • House MD Season 1 DVD Boxset (5-disc) – P1,200
  • House MD Season 2 DVD Boxset (5-disc) – P1,200
  • House MD Season 3 DVD Boxset (5-disc) – P1,500

No word on the set configuration, but can anyone here confirm the number of discs in the R1 collections?

Though I reallly like the series, I'd wait for the price to go down. If it won't then I'd just be satisfied with my .avis.

That's great, at prices competitive with Warner's TV-Series-On-DVD season set releases. Magna cares!  Grin

My big question here would be: Will Season One R3 be an ANAMORPHIC release? There was a lot of anger in the States when the R1 was released since it was widescreen non-anamorphic, and that actually influenced my decision NOT to get this series on DVD.

Hopefully Magnavision (or the first person who purchases a copy of it) can enlighten us on this issue.

Most probably Season 1 mirrors the non-anamorphic widescreen aspect of it's REgion 1 counterpart. Sad

A bit OT, but is the Region 4 version of S1 anamorphic? Magna was selling a couple of sets during the last Quezon Ave. warehouse sale.

Considering the R1 is widescreen non-anamorphic and the R2/R4 is fullscreen, IF the R3 of Season One turns out to be widescreen anamorphic, I think we have a potential worldwide ebay hit on our hands...  Grin

Parang katulad ng Lost Season 1 and 2 R3.. But then I guess for me what matter really is what I see and hear when I watch the show..

Okay, my observations on the House Seasons 1 & 2 DVD sets released in the Philippines by Magnavision:

1. The sets are not Region 3 - they are Region 0.

2. Like its R1 counterpart, the version of Season One we have is widescreen non-anamorphic.  Sad Season Two is anamorphic.

3. The box that contains the discs is made of very thin cardboard. It contains a "DVD9" logo like the one you see on Magnavision Budget DVD9s. The aspect ratio is INCORRECTLY printed as 2.35:1 on both sets - much like most network television shows in the States, its actual aspect ratio is 1.78:1.

4. Although the keep cases are of very good quality, the label art of each keep case looks very amateurish, like a paste-up job done on Photoshop, and these sleeves don't even match PER SEASON - when you look at the three cases per season, one stands out as completely out of place:

5. Fortunately, the disc art itself does match per season, and the discs really are dual layered. Picture quality seems adequate.

6. The listed special features on the Season One set are intact; however, I cannot find the "An Evening With House" featurette on Season Two that's supposed to be on Disc 5.  Angry

I'm not very happy with the purchase. I'll give the release a 5/10, and that's only because I value disc content most, and the episodes do look okay. It's not like any other region got an anamorphic transfer for season one, anyway.

Are the discs imported?  I have this feeling that they aren't, which means the price is still a tad pricey and has a long way to drop comes sale season a few months after...

Then they're guilty of false advertising, since from the images I posted, you can see the gold "Imported DVD" sticker on the upper right hand corner of the boxes.

Agreed. They're monitoring this thread so hopefully they'll take action. I'll email Beth Gan as well. From the tone of her reply last night, I don't think she knows about the sticker. Their warehouse department should correct that oversight ASAP since it is misleading.

May I ask if that missing featurette is indicated on the local packaging? I'm okay as long as the label clearly states what I'm supposed to expect.

Deep inside there's a part of me that says putting that "imported dvd" sticker on a locally pressed disc was unintended. But if you're going to do something local, the least you can do is make it comparable to its overseas counterparts.

Sure, there may be hindrances -- economic or otherwise. But creativity flourishes best with limitations. And those who have gone lazy get what they deserve.

At the price we're paying we expect to, at the very least, feel good about our purchase as well as  praise the people that brought us such a fine release.

I don't think I'll get this local release anymore. This whole situation has just gone sour Tongue

Yes, it's indicated both on the box and on the jacket of the 3rd keep case. I'm not definitively saying it's not in the set at all - I honestly haven't played the first 4 discs of the season looking for it, but the cover art (and the post above of boredfilmmaker quoting Ms. Gan) suggests it's supposed to be on Disc 5, and it's not. Unless it's an Easter Egg?

Thanks, dude.

You see, I think that'll be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me. If the featurettes aren't complete as stated, then that's just false advertising -- and someone should be castrated  Grin

But hey, I'll still be completely alright if it was just switched to another disc (ETA: or an Easter Egg  Wink ). As long as it's complete. Still sour, though  Wink

sa tingin ko yung artist na nag ayos ng packaging & layout design eh hindi nanonood ng house  Cheesy or hindi man lang ata pinoydvd member at hindi nangongolekta ng origs kasi mali ang mga naka indicate sa box vs sa laman ng discs. so either kinopya lang nya ang contents sa ibang region boxes or hindi nag research sa google  Grin they cant fool fans & orig buying consumers, we research & compare before we buy  Wink if it's a little pricey but the make & build is great, ok lang. a good compromise sa price ika nga. but pangit na nga build tapos kulang kulang pa laman sa discs, err? teka, antay na lang ako sale kasi maraming jack sparrow copies dyan na kumpleto sa features, DVD copy pa!  Grin

I would rather buy na lang used like-new DVDs from the Amazon marketplace at the same price but with a better packaging and complete features than buy the release here in the Philippines.

Magna, are you reading these posts?

This should serve as a lesson to you. This thread should have been helping you sell more copies of this title but alas, it's the opposite that's happening now. I'm sure this will affect your other titles as well.
