Hey guys, anybody bought any of the new concert dvd local releases priced @ P395?

I checked out one of them yesterday and bought a copy of EAGLES : HELL FREEZES OVER.  Here's my take on the dvd :

Packaging -  Red Amaray Case with insert on other artists ( not about the Eagles! ) Similar to budget releases with small bubble wrap inserts to keep the dvd from falling off.

Picture Quality -  Wasn't impressed but watchable.  Not sure if it's faithful to the R1 release. Definitely not VCD quality naman like the China Crisis and other P299 releases.  It's full frame though.  And yes, it's dual layer ( dvd9 ).

Sound Quality - - Now here's why you should BUY this if you're an Eagles Fan.  The 5.1 DTS presentation is reference quality.  You can hear all instruments in a crisp and clear manner.  An auditory experience indeed.  Just sit in your chair and let your speakers mesmerize you. You will fall in love once again with your home theater system!

Extras - not much. just an additional song.

PQ = pwede na.  SQ = sulit! I think it's a decent buy for P395.

Any other comments on same or other titles? I'd like to hear from the gallery before I go get myself other titles.

Mattia!

You said it. That China Crisis 299 was a ripoff.  I think it is the worst quality video dvd I have. What i do-so as not to make waste of the disc is to listen na lang to it-That is turn off the TV and turn up everything else.

Cheers!

I am not sure Keane is Full frame or not, but Mariah Carey is Anamorphic Widescreen.   Locally minted DVD9s.  Good PQ and SQ.

The R1 Keane Live is ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN and not full frame so chances are this local release is also widescreen.  It's not DTS though. Only 5.1 dolby digital.

I got the Nirvana: Unplugged in New York DVD last weekend but haven't watched it yet.

I didn't like the red Amaray case because it covered the artwork on the inside back cover. So I swapped it out for a clear Amaray case. It's just photos but it makes the overall package much nicer to look at.

The red Amaray's must be surplus stock, because I wouldn't know why they'd use that. It's fugly.

Yeah! I hope she comes back here, as I missed her concert before.

I really like the red Amaray casing. I hope to see other colored casings in the future (OT: besides this, I already have orange (Garfield, original R3 release) and yellow (SpongeBob, R1 release)).

wala bang additional titles na ilalabas?  mostly mainstream acts kasi yung available.  speaking of red amaray,  the original release of rush hour 2 R1 was in red amaray too.  the mask was apple green, while austin powers gold member in sky blue.  i myself find it cool to have it in various colors.

Hmm. I'm not sure. Those are the only titles listed on the insert of the Mariah Carey DVD I bought.

(OT again: Oh yeah I forgot about Austin Powers. I have pala apple green (Austin Powers), red (The Spy Who Shagged Me), sky blue (Goldmember), and pink (Down With Love))

In MusicOne, Tower Records, Fully Booked (Fort Boni), Odyssey, Astro, Landmark Record Bar. Practically everywhere. But the most complete stocks would be in MusicOne and Tower Records.

If you can't find an audio CD of China Crisis, baka pwede na to.  Cheaper pa than a CD.  Otherwise stay far, far away from this dibidee...

Just bought Eagles: Hell Freezes Over.  There are 3 audio options, PCM 2.0, DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1.  May I ask who owns the R1 version of this, DTS & PCM lang ba yung sa inyo?  Kasi If the Dolby is added in R3 baka na sacrifice yung bit rate ng DTS... Huh

Pls refer to the this imdb link for Regions 1 & 2 versions of the disc:  http://imdb.com/title/tt0123815/dvd

Seems like the R3 version has the only one with 3 options.  However, I didn't find any complaints with the sound of this R3 version.  The DTS option rocks with clear and crisp audio.  Truly an auditory experience.  It's the picture that I'm not quite sure if it's faithful to the R1 source.  Might be that the bit rate of the picture, and not the DTS,  suffered from the inclusion of the Dolby?  Not sure though...

Thanks for the reply guys.  But check this out.. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007Y89ZM/ref=s9_asin_title_1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=1HSG9AT224SSY38R6VC1&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=320448801&pf_rd_i=507846

Amazon is also selling an R1 with 3 audio options just like the R3 that i've mentioned above.  Maybe this is a re-release with an additional audio option?

It says:
"Region: Region 1"
"...Format: AC-3, Closed-captioned, Color, Dolby, DTS Surround Sound, DVD-Video, Live, NTSC ..."

Also from the customer review:
"...I have found no other DVD that can match the production quality and sound, yet. Mostly due to the DTS encoding which is noticably superior to the Dolby Digital 5.1 surround on the home theater system..."
