I have a new 40GB PS3 that broke after 2 months of light use (mostly playing Blu-rays).  Do you know the best place to take it for repair (in the Philippines)?  I got it in the US, so I imagine the warranty will be useless here, but it needs to be repaired anyway.

It won't recognize any Blu-ray or DVD when you put it in, anymore, so I suspect it's the optical drive.  Has anybody else had this problem, especially with a new player?

there are other cases of the bd drive breaking down. But it has been determined that either your unit is a lemon or just the lens of the bd. Eyo has replaced a lot of lenses for the ps3 but they are not the only one that is able to supply and fix the lens. Try to get a lower price or haggle for longer warranty with the replaced lense.

I finally got to Manila and had my ps3 repaired at EYO in Greenhills.  The lens replacement was P5,500 and that fixed it.  They insisted on a 1 month warranty only, though.

My officemate has helped me to buy a PS3 in HK around one month ago. Initially, I just tested it by playing some Blu-ray discs and game disc and it worked. Last week, I bought a HDTV and  started to watch some blu-ray discs and DVD-R (Blu-ray ripped MPEG AVC file). After I played Blu-ray disc (Casino Royale) for few minutes, it freezes. There is a error message which I forget the code. I turn it off and try again. It no longer detects any Blu-ray disc or game disc anymore. For DVD-R discs, sometimes it can detect and play and sometimes it cannot detect. Anybody has similar problem? Is it the problem of the len? I have done those restore default settings and re-formatting. It doesn't work.
I read a HK forum. It seem that it is a common problem there and PS3 service center can fix it or replace it in a few days.
It is too expensive to go to HK just to fix it. But I am still hesitated to fix it here with high cost and quality is not guaranteed, especially my unit is just 1 month old.
Any suggestion? Thanks! Sad
