As with most recent Magna releases, even those that are at 199, they are usually on par with R1 releases.

covers are a turn off though. Saw the one for On The Waterfront. The bleeding blue cover art is horrendous to say the least.

The R1 art is similar.  Not Magna's fault.  I think many of those covers designs are intentional to convey a sense that they are old classics.

Magna has recently released a lot of good budget classic movie boxsets...for those who have bought any of these boxsets, are the discs DVD9s?

If they are, and considering their price, i think that these boxsets are a good buy for us who love classic movies very much...

They are for the most part identical to R1 releases.  If R1 is DVD9, then chances are, the Magnavision release is, as well.

They are really great value. 695 for three, even greater value during sales.

Boxed set seen include:

Rita Hayworth
Doris Day
Gregory Peck
Al Pacino (4 DVDs)
Marlon Brando (2-different sets)
Elvis Presley
Cary Grant
John Wayne
Western collection

Also single title like
On the Waterfront
It's a Wonderful Life
and lot of others.

Ok, not all are Sony Classics, but classics released by Magnavision.  Wink

Well, if they really mirror their R1 counterparts, then these are good buys indeed. I just hope that they mirror the good R1 releases, i.e., not the barebones counterparts.

There are two Alfred Hitchcock set, one has three titles, the new one has four and includes Psycho.

Also new: Barbra Streisand set and Clint Eastwood set.

Although I don't remember the titles included, as there are so many.

I have On the Waterfront. PQ is great. The menu is also flashy (if you care. lol). It packs a lot of special features. If you're a Brando fan or fan of classics this is a definite buy. Smiley
