According to this Sky Cable will be rolling out HD services next month. Right now Magallanes is said to be the test bed for the service. Can anyone verify this claim?

I'm sure they'll charge for it after all why not make money off the people who can afford expensive HDTVs?

AFAIK maski 1 company lang magpasok ng HD sa pinas madidistribute na maski saan. parang Dream kasi yan na may satellite bawat bahay. medyo mahal lang lang kasi kelangan ng sat box for each tv. i have an uncle in the states, $200+ a month daw bayad nya for 4 sat boxes

Some of the HDTV shows na nagpalaglag ng baba ko (pinulot ko na ulit)  Grin

Carrier
UFC 84
Lamborghini Factory
Megafactories - Tanks
Mythbusters
The Masters
House Season 4
CSI (NY, Vegas, Miami)
Prison Break Season
Heroes Season
Sarah Connor Chronicles
Gossip Girl
Discovery Channel 100 Greatest Discoveries

Hopefully, magkaroon na nga ng HD service sa Philippines soonest.    Instead of catalogue high def movies, mas sulit ang high def TV kung meron kang HDTV kahit 720p lang - and the variety of contents is simply much wider.

So is there anybody who can confirm if this is indeed happening soon for Sky?  I tried googling this exhaustively and didn't get any hits.  Must be a soft rumor.

Anyway if you're really hot on HD broadcast, then why not try Dream?  Per TV nga lang ang bayad, but then again... if you can afford a high investment panel TV...  Grin

My colleagues is staying in Magallanes area & Sky Cable service staff already went to her home. She's not really familiar with what happened but based on her description, it seems Sky Cable has installed a "Digital Set-top Box" (No HD). She can view "Info Text" on the chanels i.e. info on the programes, time/duration, etc. The drawback now is she can't use a spliter anymore for her extra TV... Grin

I doubt HD service will be provided so soon by our cable providers but if it materializes that will be indeed good news. Smiley

Maybe it's just digital programming sir Pchin but not yet hd.  Grin I think digital programming itself is twice clearer than regular cable programs which is not  bad.

I agree.  Grin

I'm still pessimistic about this. I think our cable companies still don't have the technology to provide their subscrubers with HD programming. The question is what local channels or Asian channels are showing their programs in HD? None at this moment, right? If there is may be just a few of them. In USA, Directv in particular, they only charge their customers $9.99 extra every month for hd programming fee. So I hope that Skycable wouldn't rip their customers' pockets if they're gonna provide this service here in the Philippines.

I wouldn't mind paying a premium for HD programing. If you can afford to buy a 150,000 pesos 52-inch Samsung LA52A650 then by all means you can pay more for HD cable.

very interesting ... if indeed sky is going HD by year end, then we can (or should) expect some ads regarding this in a few months ....
let's just hope that the added premium will not relate to staggering subscription fees though...  Shocked

hmmm, why not include sports channels, too ... also, discovery channel ...  Wink

Skycable installed my dighboxes in May. As per their advisory, our area (Pasay) was supposed to go digital by the end of May, and we would require the digibox to receive the signal. And yes, the pq improved. The digiboxes come free for existing subscribers, one box for every declared TV set.

2-3 years from now pa siguro tayo magkakaroon ng hd broadcast sa Pinas kasi sa Tate mga last year lang talaga nagboom hd programming nung nagmura lang talaga hdtv eventhough matagal ng meron . Directv right now is showing about 95 channels in hd, Dishnetwork about 70-80 and cable about 50. Kainggit! Kaya ngayon dl na lang muna ng mga hd sa torrent.  Grin

I was able to talk to a Skycable CSR and inquired if they have any plans of going HD. She said YES! They have plans daw to transmit HD signals for subscribers with HD capable TVs. But, it hasn't materialized yet and there's no final announcement. Pero inaayos na daw nila ngayon
