But, it hasn't materialized yet and there's no final announcement.

That's the question that may take years to be answered.  Embarrassed

I read an article in today's (Sept. 12) Phil. Star on page A33 that SkyCable is offering a pay-per-view high-definition broadcast of the 2008 Ryder Cup from Sept. 19-22 for those with HDTVs. An HD decoder (different from their digibox) will be provided for subscribers. Subscription is P2000 (includes subscription cost, installation & HD decoder box).

2k for four days!?!  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes If many customers bite this over-priced subscription then they will have no reason not to over price their hd programming subscription in the future. All they need to do is just provide their customer with hd receiver and they will get hd programming anytime they want. It's not like you have to pay every time you want watch tv in hd.   Angry

Any idea what's the channel line-up and may tentative pricing ba?

Kung 2k agad for 4days for testing, they could probably charge as high as 5k a month. Shocked

Sky Cable Philippines delivers nation's first HD broadcast with Ryder Cup

by Darren Murph, posted Sep 16th 2008 at 7:04AM
Initially, we wondered why Sky Cable Philippines would choose the Ryder Cup as the nation's first HD broadcast, but then we remembered that there's really no better way to show off the benefits of high-def than to showcase a sporting event. Reportedly the cable carrier will be delivering the four day event (September 19th through 22nd) in magnificent high-definition to those who take the plunge on an HD set-top-box. Too bad that box costs a stiff $42, but hopefully this is just the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Got some info from our cable provider here in Angeles City that they are preparing for HD roll-out too.   Pretty good thing...except maybe for the exorbitant fees.

they're probably still thinking of ways to charge their subscribers thousands of pesos for this service eventually...just look at their platinum plan...additional crap channels for much more money, blech

2K pala per subscription ito hindi per month. Limited to 50 HD boxes pa lang and after 4 days they might get the box and you will have to wait for the next avail. HD program and probably pay another 2K . . . or more.

We subscribed to the HD broadcast of the Ryder Cup this weekend. We paid P2000 for the HD digital box receiver made by Coship & Ryder Cup HD Broadcast. The unit can output 480p, 576p, 720p, & 1080i resolutions & it even upscales regular tv broadcast to said resolutions. Video output thru HDMI, component & regular analog output. Audio output thru optical or regular analog outs. The unit downsamples AC3 to regular 2 channel PCM.

There are 2 channels alloted for HD broadcast. One for the Ryder Cup & the other is showing Luxe TV HD for the past few days & today National Geographic HD is on test broadcast.

Im quite glad meron na nag start ng HD broadcast.  Im pretty sure the other cable providers will make their HD service roll-out too.    Now, watching NBA games in HD will finally be a reality sooner than expected....

2-3 years from now pa siguro tayo magkakaroon ng hd broadcast sa Pinas kasi sa Tate mga last year lang talaga nagboom hd programming nung nagmura lang talaga hdtv eventhough matagal ng meron . Directv right now is showing about 95 channels in hd, Dishnetwork about 70-80 and cable about 50. Kainggit! Kaya ngayon dl na lang muna ng mga hd sa torrent.  Grin

Since Skycable is already distributing digital cable channels and has the extra bandwidth to carry HD, it is  just a matter of deploying the HD capable digital boxes in order to distribute HD signals. Soon, there will be more HD programming from the satellites servicing this region hence there will be more choices.

On a related note, local broadcasters I'm sure is already taping their local shows (teleseryes) on HD in anticipation of this improved quality of transmission. In fact, some of ABS CBN programs are being mastered on HD  so that it will be marketable overseas. They have to convert it first to standard definition before broadcast over the air but the masters are in HD. I will not be surprised if Sky will come up with an HD-teleserye channel in the future.

Looking forward to this HD experience but expect a stiff price from skycable once it happens.

Just earlier i add the BTV channel to my subscription (NBA is BACK on sky! But on a premium Channel 149) to be able to watch NBA games and thats additional 100bucks a month on top of my montly rate.
