Hi Guys,

I'm new to this NMT thing and is still learning.

I own a BD Player & DVD Player and have a modest HT set-up at home.

I just have a few newbie questions if you don't mind.

1.  Is the picture quality of NMT's at par with BD's? DVD? YES
2.  How about the sound quality? YES
3.  What are the advantages/disadvantages of shifting to NMT's as opposed to BD's? (On top of the obvious savings from buying expensive Bluray disks)
a 2TB backup of your bluray holds about:
~46 BDMV @ 2TB
~180+ titles @ 2TB 1080p
~350+ titles @ 2TB @720p
[/b]
4.  What would you suggest as the most cost-effective NMT brand for starters like me?
since you already have BD/DVD, pickup a starter NMT that wont pinch hard, if your HT audio setup has optical, go for that but make sure your NMT has optical out (assuming HT audio setup)
5.  Do these NMT's bundled w/HD's already have pre-loaded movies?
no comment, sa PM yan better pagusapan with your seller

Appreciate your inputs masters!  Thanks!

as to brands (realtek):

make sure you grab 1185 chip na para sulit ang investment mo, 1073 is the older chip that's no longer in production anymore so grab 1185/1186):

ACRyan,Egreat, PCH, Kaiboer,Measy,Mede8er, WD and etc

1. Depends on the file

2. Depends on the file, yet audiophiles in this board would still say NO.

3. Advantage: Disc-less world?   Disadvantage:  You'd be advocating piracy for the most part - personal morality issue and socio-economic issue - profound?  hehehe

4.  Go for Sigma based model if you are concerned about being "AT PAR WITH BD".

5.  Frankly speaking, what's the purpose of a bundled HDD?  None of us was born yesterday right.  Hence, no need to ask and no need to expound further.

Egreat S900 has analog audio output and fast UI, add 3D glasses and 2D to 3D converter if you see yourself going into 3D HDTV. priced about the same as K750li

if on a budget dont need Sigma 86xx players with HDD + BD loader combo, get a basic Sigma86xx instead -- Egreat S100, PCH A210 would fit the bill fine.

Thanks for answering Sir Jim you've always been the best when it comes to this. Sana sa mga owner ng NMT may makapag try para sa next mong question na "which NMT allows videoke audio control (supress audio guide, etc)?"

Thank you.

And dont let the size factor fool you, this device can also have a bluray drive option just above the HD tray.

wanted to buy this one bro, but after thorough inquiries with CDRKing techs, this device cannot play .mkv files, even though the box says it can. and it can only handle 1TB HDD.

Quick question.

I'm planning to grab a Media Player to replace my PS3 to watch my backups.  Currently, I have my movies in my external HDD, plugged into my PC, which I then stream to my PS3 via PS3 Media Server.

So far, I have three options, Xtreamer Sidewinder, AC Ryan PlayOn HD Essentials, and WD TV Live.  I'm leaning towards WD TV Live price-wise at the moment.  Would that be a great choice?  Also, if ever, I would still like to maintain my current setup, with regard to streaming my media through the PC.  I can do it wired, so I can do without WiFi.

TIA Smiley

Thanks for your input Cheesy

On Second thought, di pala pwede si PlayOn HD Essentials kasi wala siyang LAN port :\  So I guess its a toss up between Xtreamer Sidewinder 2 and WD TV Live Shocked

After some consideration, I'm now considering WDTV Live which cost around 5k here in Cebu. But I'm also tempted to consider Asus O!play mini due to its price around 3.7k. I have read that WDTV uses Sigma chip while Asus is realtek, my question is: would it be justifiable to pay more for WD than the Asus on the basis of the chip difference? By the way can the Asus also have live internet streaming? tia

@toys4geeks, do you have any outlet here in Cebu? issue ko dito is warranty kung masira sya during the warranty period....

Find out what model of Sigma chip runs on WDTV, if its 8643, then that's a keeper, buy it.

none, but you know what? I can cover costs within warranty, with advance replacement should it fail within the warranty period:) my friends frequent  Cebu and Davao every 2-3 months as well Smiley  Maayong buntag.

They give good color, 8643 however let's you access full. bD MENU if you have the right BDmV files, albeit files are 4-6 x bigger Smiley

For Realtek , newer chips are : 1185 and 1186 (3d), so keep that in mind when you shop coz Older ones meron din naman

I noticed that the newer egreat players with the 1186 chipset no longer has the redtimes UI... How's the android UIs for this model? I'm looking for a new NMT to upgrade from my kaiboer 1073... Kung mas maganda UI na redtimes, then might settle for 1185 na lang

Sir jim, any recommendations for an egreat model with the following features?

USB 3.0
eSATA
1186/1185 chipset... Pwede rin ung latest ng sigma
Internal HDD

Thanks!

andriod phones normally run apps even if wala kang ginagawa, which slows them down a bit. ganun din na for andriod based nmt?
