Hi, I'm new here!

For quality conscious people, heads up here. Not all Magnavision DVDs are mastered on uncompressed DVD9 discs. Some titles are in DVD5 format and are quite blurred/pixelated. Sad I was hoping to get rid of my REAL DVD9 pDVDs and got these as upgrades. Total disappointment IMHO.

Here are the lousy DVD5 copies I got:

1. Black Hawk Down - NOTE: Packaging/Cover states that the DVD is Dual Layer. Tsk Tsk.
2. Tears Of The Sun
3. The Patriot - NOTE: Packaging/Cover states that the DVD is Dual Layer. As well!
4. Patriot Games

DVD9s I got are as follows:

1. Enemy At The Gates
2. Schindler's List
3. The Bridge At River Kwai
4. MacArthur
5. Forrest Gump
5. Clear And Present Danger
6. Hunt For Red October
7. The Sum Of All Fears

Please share your own purchases so we may all know what titles to immediately to go for and what to reconsider.

By and large, Magnavision has ditched the DVD5 format UNLESS the original source (ie R1) is in DVD5.  Most of those DVD5s are earlier releases when Magnavision does not have the capability to locally manufacture DVD9s.

Maybe you can still return those Dvd5's especially Black Hawk Down since its cover is quite misleading.

Not sure. There were two prices. The one I got was marked down to 175 pesos. But the cover states dual layer but DVD used was DVD5.

As I posted two years ago, Magnavision has pretty much ditched the DVD5 format UNLESS the original (ie master copy) is in DVD5.  So you can pretty much buy without worrying.  As to identifying the format, unless indicated on the label, you will have to open the DVD case to find out.  refer to the stickied thread on DVD9  elsewhere in this forum...

Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans with Bonus Disc from Magnavision have some typos on the pages of the book-like-case of the bonus disc. Can't they (Magnavision) do a better job at this?, Can't they proof read it and check for some errors before finally printing it? Ex: defemd (defend), Arnaud Tannis (Andreas Tannis).. etc.. I guess C-Interactive is a lot better with dvd releases.. It's not even on sale and the quality is really poor.. Also the menu of the main disc is a little bit off center..

I guess C-Interactive is a lot better with dvd releases (than Magnavision)

Wow, I'll bet that's the first time a sentence like that has ever been issued on these forums!  Grin
