Wow! That's cheaper than my BD30 I got last year... Let us know how good are the SD DVD upscaling and the DiVX playback  Grin

Panasonic DMP-BD35 CNET REVIEW

The good:
Excellent image quality on Blu-ray Discs; Profile 2.0 compliant; onboard decoding for all high-resolution soundtrack formats, plus bit-stream output.

The bad:
PlayStation 3 offers much more functionality and faster navigation, although it costs more.

The bottom line:
The Panasonic DMP-BD35 represents the best value in standalone Blu-ray players, with excellent image quality, a comprehensive feature set, and a price that's significantly lower than the PS3

Quote
Lastly, we finished up our tests by watching selected portions of The Matrix DVD, and we were quickly sucked into the film by the DMP-BD35's image quality. Sure, if you need the absolute best, you'll want something like the Oppo DV-983H, but the vast majority of home theater fans should be satisfied with the DMP-BD35's DVD playback.

Panasonic DMP-BD35 is certainly a great choice esp for those migrating to BD for the first time.  Smiley

Hello guys!

Is the upscaling comparable to the oppo 983?

and what makes this better than the ps3 interms of playback/picture quality?  thanks.

I need an upscaler dvd.  My current ps3 is locked to region 3.

should I get:

1) this one, pana bd35. blue ray and upscaler @300 usd!? wow.
2) oppo 983 (why am I buying old technology that's about to be forgotten in a few years?)
3) a US Ps3 ( I hope this one doesn't die on me )

thanks!

Panasonic Bows Sub-$300 BD Live Player

Panasonic Electronics is offering the DMP-BD35K Blu-ray player for $299.95 — among the lowest listed retail prices for a Profile 2.0 Web-enabled unit.

The player originally fetched $399.95.

When purchased online at Panasonic.com, the unit includes two free mail-in Blu-ray movies: Ratatouille and Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, both from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

Amazon.com features the DMP-BD35K for $271.76, which includes free shipping but no movies.

Similarly priced Blu-ray players from Samsung (BDP-1500) and Sony (BDP-S350) require free firmware upgrades.

Circuit City is offering the Panasonic player at the identical price with $5 off titles National Treasure, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

thank you for this!

a little confession guys,  I actually held off on my amazon order (it was through a middleman/shipper so there was enough lag time) and tried to ask around from a local seller... only to find out that they're selling it for 29k.... And that's just the bd35!

In a way, my waiting paid off since NellNo posted the link.  I ordered the bd55  for less and even have 4 dvds practically for free ($100 discount).  I do have to pay a 10% extra for the shipper/buyer... and maybe another 50 bucks for Johnny Air Cargo.

thanks for the help.

Good things come for those who wait!  Grin

Congrat's on your purchase! And you won't be disappointed with the BD55.

One thing I find very interesting with the BD55 is that when playing BR discs with 5.1 PCM and/or 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtrack, the player applies "PLII X mixing" type to the rear surround channels so that you'll be hearing a 7.1 mix instead of 5.1 only. I don't know how the player does or if the older BD50 does it the same - but it's a great feature.. This has been mentioned on the AVS forums.
