Not really. Most blockbuster films are released here simultaneously or ahead of R1/R2.
Now if it's an art film or an indie, then you have a delayed release problem.

I was told the Magna is still undecided whether they would sell the gift set because they fear that this, along with the originally planned Wanted gift set, would just gather dust, like what happened to the Indiana Jones 4 gift set.

As long as they go with decent packaging and bring in a limited number, it will sell, especially the Hellboy giftset, which caters to the comics crowd, which are also known collectors. The Wanted giftset, on the other hand, might not be as 'wanted' but based on R1 picture, it is still way better than the Crystal Skull Indy, which looks cheap in the easily creased packaging.
If I were Magna, I will bring in the number of preorders for Wanted giftset plus say 2 for every big branches (ie Trinoma, Podium) but skip those branches here high end DVDs stay on the shelves. That way, you satisfy your most loyal customers (those who are willing to preorder and give down payments, even if there is no incentive), and also get a few sales in the process.
As for those Crystal Indy, it's time to discount them. Sell them for 1,500 with any 1,000 purchase. Or sell them for 1,000 with 2,500 purchase, you hit two birds with one stone.
But as with most DVDs, if you want to bring in those DVD giftsets (Hellboy II, WAnted), you gotta bring them in now, before the 15th. Same with discounting the Crystal Indy. Come January, everyone will not be in a spending mood, what with the economic crisis and the Christmas season burning a hole in everyone's pocket.
And one more thing, if Viva could package their sets so nicely and sell them on the cheap, so could Magna for those mega sets. If only Crystal Indy is packaged as nicely as Prince Caspian, they would have racked up a couple more sales... I would have...
Way off topic, sorry...but hope's Magna is listening...

I've told the Magna rep that PinoyDVD members are actually more interested in the Hellboy II and Wanted gift sets than the Indiana Jones 4 gift set. Hopefully, she brings this up to her superiors as they are occasionally asked for marketing advice. Like in the case of The Mummy 3 gift set. Magna was considering bringing here a deluxe gift set of that movie. But the Magna reps told the execs that it may not be a popular item, so it seems Magna just put the whole thing off.

Also saw a copy of this yesterday at odyssey megamall. the cover for the 2 disc edition is the one that Sir boredfilmmaker posted.
The quality of the printing itself is not good.

Yeah, the slipcase of the two-disc version looks like crap. They should forgo those gold-foil stamping, so far, The Mummy 3, Ariel Beginning, and Hellboy II with Gold letters, all have bad slipcase. The open square of Hellboy II slipcase makes it look cheap.
The steelbooks are much better, with The Mummy 3's steelbook having one of the best artwork (the metallic sheen looks great) of any Steelcase available locally. Off topic...

It seems Magna won't release the gift set anymore, according to the Magna rep I spoke to.

what's the reason behind the cancellation of the hell boy gift set release? I made advanced order for it so does that mean that Astrovision will refund me for that one?
I inquired just this week and they said it wasn't released yet... weird that staffs aren't informed yet on this matter.
Thanks

Or pinagkasya nila yung laman ng R1 3-Disc dito sa R3 2-disc?
thanks.

Yes, the R3 2-disc has the same features as the 1st 2 discs of the R1. The 3rd disc of the R1 is only the digital copy.

I reserved for the Hellboy Gift Set last November only to find out they have cancelled it. So why won't they give me back my reservation fee when it's clearly their shortcomings for not bringing product here and their faults (not mine, as really wanted to buy it)!
So disappointed with Astro! I was there yesterday (at Astro SM Makati) and they were insistent of not returning the reservation fee but using it to buy something else. Problem was there wasn't anything that interest me.
Hope they improve their policy and service to their customers!

Actually, it's Magnavision's fault. Not Astro, they are just a reseller. I understand your angst. But cool down. It's just 200. Sooner or later, there must be something you'd like...

But shouldn't Astro refund the 200 since in essence, the item in question never materialized....my opinion of course.

Yes. But maybe they just don't want to mess with their accounting or something. Still, it's bad customer relations on Astro's part. The manager should have refunded the 200 out of his/her own pocket, if it's against company policy to refund in cash...
