I want to buy The Dark Knight on Blu-ray (first BDisc, if ever.) But the thing is, I read that the disc's resolution is 1080p and my LCD TV's resolution is only till 1080i. Will my TV be able to display the video? I don't wanna be staring at a blank screen... Sad

Thanks in advance to all who will reply. Smiley

no problem, all bds are in 1080p, so any tv whether 480i or p crt to lcd that is 720p or 1080i or p will have no problem displaying it. the panel will downscale it accordingly, of course viewing a 1080p material in 1080p panel is the way to go, but not all of us can afford full hd panel just yet.

i have a 720p panel and can view 1080p hddvd materials with no issues at all.   Grin

Generally you won't have any problem. I too have a 1080i TV and have not encountered any problem regarding playing 1080p content. What you might encounter if you decide to buy Iron Man is that it doesn't play in all BD players, not sure if there is a resolution na for this concern. No worries for you since from what I know wala naman reported na ganito issue with Dark Knight  Wink

Thanks to the both of you for replying so quickly.  Grin

Follow up question... can you recommend a good BD player, which I can buy on a limited budget? I know the PS3 is humorously touted as the cheapest BD player, but I have second thoughts about it since I heard that the PS3 uses up a lot of electricity. Maybe a stand-alone player would do...?

Yes, I have no BD player yet, but is seriously considering getting one since Dark Knight on BD seems too good to pass up on.  Grin

there are lots of BD players available, and if you know somebody from the US who is about to go on Christmas vacation that is the best solution to your concern  Grin Hard to decide on which to get and siyempre price is one of the consideration. Others could be sound output capability, etc. Most of those that  switch to the BD format do so because they want to maximize on both Video and Audio performance. having said that it is really up to you and what your requirement(s) will be. here is a link of Price Image of BD players if you will have somebody buy it from Circuit City. Of course you can get it cheaper pa elsewhere  Wink

i think the only way you can get a decently priced stand alone bd player is to get it from the u.s. either through you relatives there or through amazon then shipped vis johnny air cargo or have a relative bring it back home to you.

samsung bd-1500 is cheapest now in the u.s., 207$ in amazon
panasonic bd35 or bd55 are good choices to less than 250$ (last time i look)
and sony bd300 or bd 350 thats around 260$

if you are using johnny air cargo you have to add 4-5k for shipping. so you will have to spend between 15-18k, but if you buy in stores here, its around 25k-30k.

here in the market place you may see some players at around 18k (brand new). but you have to be lucky to buy it first.

goodluck.  Grin

if your tv is only 1080i capable, and you set your bd player to output at 1080p, you should see a blank screen.

Another question... Can the BD player be modified so that it can play multi-region DVDs (and still play BDs)?

Another question... Can the BD player be modified so that it can play multi-region DVDs (and still play BDs)?

since most bd players are still relatively new, hacks to make its dvd playing capability multi-region are not readily available. regular internet and forum research are needed to know whether its possible for a particular player or not.

afaik, there is still no bd player than can play multi region dvd. but if ever some hacks will surface later on, the player will still have its capability to play bluray.

anyone?  Grin

Ang alam ko, the locally-sourced Panny BD-30 is region-free. That's the only one I am aware of.
