start ps3 media server  and your ps3 will detect your pc. navigate to your files and play! mkv, m2ts, flv, mp3 mp4 jpeg bmp are all supported also oter formats. try it!

Download the app for Windows XP.
Install and then run the app.
Turn your PS3
Use the XMB and go to PS3 media server (under videos)
Browse your PC folders through XMB --> i think it's easier if you place the files you want inside C: drive (no subfolders)
Highlight and select and you should be good to go.

Been using my PS3 as a media server ever since I got it (April '08). Are you sure it can play MKV files? From my experience, the PS3 will only play formats that it can recognize.

Been using it with my Vista. Do I really need to download PS3 Media Server for Windows v1.03? Would it be easier, faster?

it just streams from your pc, for mkv files with subtitles...minsan too big yung font size especially kung custom font yung ginamit sa mkv...don't know how to resolve it yet

Decided to install the media server. This is a better alternative to Tversity, Twonk, Nero Mediahome and Windows Media. It's simpler to use and it does recognize MKV files. What it does is transcode it in real time. I'm streaming my MKV copy of Resident Evil Degeneration right now. Only problem is that it stutters, which I was expecting from a real time transcoding. I think you'll need a pretty powerful CPU to really make this particular feature work flawlessly.

Good... the only downside is the electrical power required to make mkv viewing / streaming good enough compared to a dedicated hardware device such as WD or NMT (like eGreat/PopcornHour/Novatron).

I also made this run on my PS3 (and PC) but switched back to the NMT.

but for those who already have a ps3 and do not have a NMT, this is the choice, I think...

the other advantage is, if you have both an NMT and a PS3, you can place the other in a separate room.  galing!

How do you use it with Vista, Sir?

My wife did the setup so I'm not really familiar with it. From what I remember, you just have to add the folders to be shared on the Winmedia Player 'media sharing' option.
