Yes, that's why Aberforth777 specified excluding the Fox/Disney (Buena Vista) releases.

I'd still be wary about this title. It could be fullscreen with a second disc of bonus materials taken from the electronic press kit issued for the film's local theatrical release and some other extras they licensed from Summit (like the deleted scenes, etc.). Viva's non-Fox/Disney discs usually still have some special features, and those 375 releases have all been full screen.

This is not something I'd pre-order (and give a deposit on) due to the track record of ALL of Viva's former 375 releases. I'd say wait until the disc is in stores so you can check it out for yourself.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll just buy the US release then. Good thing a relative will be visiting next month.

Here you go, new guy:

1. Viva's imported 2 Disc sets from Fox/Disney are usually initially priced at 750 or 900. If they have single disc counterparts, these are usually sold for 550. These are the widescreen, imported discs.

2. Whenever Viva initially releases a single disc title at 375, this is always a locally-pressed DVD5 which is fullscreen.

3. Twilight has a single disc local release being sold for 375.

4. The price of the two-disc Twilight set would seem to be 375 (single disc price) x 2 (number of discs) = 750

I'm not saying that Twilight will surely be a locally-pressed full-screen single disc release/2-disc release, but given their previous release history (as pointed out above), this seems to be a possibility, particularly since:

a. Twilight is neither a Fox nor a Disney release; and

b. The single disc price is 375.

So my advice is unless you really really want the poster, wait until you see actual reviews of the local R3 release here before you decide to pick up a copy. You might not be allowed to get your deposit back if you reserve and the final product is of substandard quality.

I was looking at a sealed R1 of this title earlier today. The listed features of the 2-Disc R3 seem identical to the R1. So maybe this will be a good R3 release...

Bad film na nga, dapat naman, good DVD release...  Grin

I saw one yesterday. It has a 3D slipcase ala Prince Caspian... I wasn't able to figure out if its like the 375 foolscreen variant though... even so, not interested lalo na at Php 750 price...

I was at the shop when it opened, and the store opened a copy with a loose disc, and they tested it. I will confirm what I suspected earlier.

The movie in the Php 750 variant, despite its 3-D packaging, is FULL SCREEN, and VCD-quality. What makes this release really funny is: Disc Two, which contains the special features, is... WIDESCREEN.

Very high quality... POSTER, though.  Grin

=====

What's up with VIVA, firewired? Don't they read these forums, or is it that they just don't care what the consumer wants? Seriously, C-Interactive seemed to listen to what was stated here, and they went from fullscreen to widescreen after about a year. Viva's been around longer, and they're still giving us really bad, full screen copies of their non Disney/Fox titles.

So now it's a not-so-great film with really bad local DVD release.   Roll Eyes

I'm not keen on getting this as I don't quite like the movie enough to actually purchase the DVD.  And even if I'm a sucker for DVDs in nice/unique packaging, I still wouldn't spend P750 on a VCD-quality DVD.

Widescreen special features and fullscreen movie??  ROFL!!

I've just been ripped off!  Angry

My daughter has been bugging me to get this, to the point of reserving a copy just to have a poster.  And now, after paying P750, I get a full-screen VCD quality DVD!  I should have gotten her a pdvd which is far better than this crap  -- mura na, widescreen pa.  (Sorry, mods, if I violate rules.  Just edit this message, if necessary.)

It's really too bad that I only got to read Mr. Hankey's post after coming home from SM where I picked up my reserved copy.   Angry  Never again will I trust Viva's releases outside of 20th Century Fox and Disney!

Viva, if you're reading this .... this is one reason why DVD piracy is still flourishing in this country .... because you come up with expensive garbage!

Unless overruled by firewired, I'm letting this one slide, since releasing the feature film in fullscreen then the features in anamorphic widescreen is hands-down the stupidest thing I've ever heard of in terms of local DVD releases.  Roll Eyes

Hindi ba kaya ng Viva magkaroon man lang ng locally manufactured DVD9 releases katulad ng Magnavision, considering that they are one of the major players in the local DVD industry?  Tapos, napaka-substandard pa ng quality ng local release na ito -- mukhang nag-download lang sila ng avi files from the internet!

Oh so crappy copy ( oh they rhyme!) of Twilight! Angry Angry Angry

My ate is one of those who are really into this movie, so she went ahead, lined up and made a reservation for the release of the DVD, she finally got it yesterday:

For 750pesos, ahhh pwede:

From Viva naku!:

She was excited to get to my place para daw FULL theater experience daw Grin Inserted the disk, then voila! Commercials, sponsors, so OK lang then the Main Feature came.

Cheap DVD5 quality ng Picture, MONO sound, ulra grainy picutre! At heto pa, walang subtitle!

Malinaw pa ang 40pesos na pirated dvd!

Ano to? Mistake lang? walang sutitle, walng option for Audio, mono LEFT and Right sound lang.

Dont buy YET, this is a very crappy DVD!!!!!!!

So what's SPECIAL about this Edition? Just the cover art? How about changing the item from the store you bought it? I'm pretty sure most of you are known by their staff, instead of keeping a garbage.

not about the viva release, but since, i think, that most of the fans of this movie are teens and are not into collecting dvds, they got confused with the numerous dvd releases.  medyo nakakatawa ang mga reactions nila.  Grin

There's a poster there that says our local version is the best. She posted a link. Ignorant little kid! Wahaha! Though the linked site did mention of a collector's edition with jewelry case. Blech!
