The 2-Disc Special Edition released here is not the Director's Cut. It's the Uncensored Theatrical Version...

Oh no. I hope this is not becoming a trend with new Magna releases. The same is true for their Friday the 13th release - it's the theatrical version, not the Killer Cut released on R1.

Really?

It says so at the back of the case of the R3 copies out on display today. 162 minutes. No indication at all that it's the Director's Cut or that it has 24 minutes of additional footage, unlike on the R1 photo that was posted earlier on this thread.

BTW, I'm referring to the slipcase version that's worth P895. Didn't see the steelcase or character case versions.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling the steelbook and the mask will all be the same 162 minute version, which is probably why Magnavision didn't reply to our queries...

The mask prices are too high.  Wonder if Warner has left them plenty of Batman Mask version, if so, they should have known that if Batman mask can't sell for 1,250... then I truly hope they don't bring in too much of these...

The steelbook is priced high too, but it's more-or-less what they charge previously give or take 100.  So it's really no surprise.  The mask however is priced 300 higher, that's a substantial price increase.

It's disappointing to learn that the DVD does not have the extra footage.

I loved the movie and I've been anticipating the DVD release for it ever since. The news that the release is still the same 162-minute version affects my anticipation. I'm trying to decide whether to skip it or still buy it.

I wonder what happened along the way. I wish Magnavision could provide some explanations here.

Saw the steelcase priced at 1500++, dr manhattan and rorschach mask version, Tales of the black freighter, and the Comic Movie dvd at the Metro Comic Con in Mega yesterday. Was tempted to buy the steelbook but was unsure which version it was.

I'll be checking the shelves of retailers today here in Cebu. As of last night, no Watchmen DVDs were around.

Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter DVD, however, has been available for some time now.

I just saw the steelbook edition.  I doubt it's the director's cut at 162 mins.

I think the pricing is way too high! If the Batman mask didn't sell too well what more for these Watchmen (not really popular as compared with Batman).

I'll pass and wait for it to be on sale maybe after a couple of months  Grin.

The Steelbook is as stated above, 162 minutes.  So all variants seems to be the same (version) save for the packaging.

Like most mask DVD, they are of the same quality of plastic.  Dr. Manhattan looks bad, when viewed up close, obvious na low quality ang plastic. Rorschach is a tad better but both are way overpriced at 18xx.  Not worth it even for collectors...

This is the sequel to the disappointment that followed Batman:TDK.  I have a feeling that Magnavision had already ordered the discs when they realized that's there is a director's cut, which is why they the specifically pasted 'Uncensored version' to fool the uninitiated...  Unfortunately for them, people here at PinoyDVD are knowledgeable about their discs.  Still, I wouldn't be surprised if these DVDs still sell briskly, after all, there are still lot of uninformed people out there...

After reading dorian_gray's post that the R4 version is also only the theatrical cut, I checked Amazon UK, and it seems the R2 version is also just of the theatrical cut - they sell the director's cut as an R1 import.

This makes me think the director's cut is probably an R1 exclusive, so let's not be too harsh on Magnavision. The decision of releasing only the theatrical version in foreign DVD markets seems to be something done by the Warner parent company, so having only that theatrical version on our local shelves is probably beyond Magna's control.

While it is disappointing that there is no Director's Cut for Region 3, I will still buy the disc since Watchmen is still the best film I saw so far this year in the theaters. Not only that, I'll also buy the Complete Motion Comic release.

What makes me wonder is why there are still no Watchmen DVDs (except Tales - now available) here in Cebu until now.

I checked both the Korean and HK versions, running time is 162 mins as well.  The German edition DVD steelbook has a running time of 156 mins.  So it does look like the Director's Cut of 186 mins is indeed exclusive to the R1 release.

FYI, the mask and steelbook korean versions are up for preorder at yesasia - $29.99 shipped.  This would be about P1450 converted.

Anyone seen the R1 Director's Cut already? Are the scenes in the missing 24mins critical? Will it be justifiable to get the R1?

To help you out: http://movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=1860304

I thought this link was posted earlier on this thread. I can't seem to find it. The article/comparison also explains that releasing the director's cut was a Warner (US) decision; Paramount holds the foreign DVD release rights and they did not see the need to release a director's cut!  Shocked

So blame Paramount, not Warner or Magnavision.

Based on the movie-censorship.com article, so far the 5-disc "Ultimate Edition" in December will also be a Warner USA release:

QUOTE:  "....Warner then decided to release the director’s cut (Snyder’s preferred version) on DVD and Blu-Ray to realize at least some profit in future – or at least reduce the loss. However first in the USA. Because for the European Market Paramount is the responsible company and both majors share the rights of the movie. And Paramount doesn’t see any reason for an extended version. For Christmas Warner announced another much longer “Ultimate Edition” in the US. In this version all Black-Freighters-Scenes will then be integrated into the director’s cut."

Hopefully, Paramount will see they can earn extra revenue by also releasing the "Ultimate Edition" in other world markets... Undecided

As much as I want this, I'm going to skip it due to the pricing and the content. Disappointing. Will ask my sis na lang to get me a Region 1 instead. If this kind of pricing will keep up I'd probably stop buying new releases.

so the 2disc non-steelbook is also uncensored edition?

kasi yung steelbook, may sticker na "uncensored edition"
pero yung 2 disc na hindi steelbook, walang sticker na "uncensored edition"

please help in clarifying

I watched the dvd from my Rorschach mask packaging which i got from Metrocon. Theatrical cut of course. I would have preferred if they all of the music out from the key scenes as they were quite irritating. The Rorschach scenes worked quite well. I hope that people will not equate the movies with their original graphic novel/comics source material. So far, none of them bring justice to the source material.

Just watched the Director's Cut earlier, 3hrs6mins was way too long for me.  Grin  I might just grab the Dr. Manhattan glow in the dark for P1,705 to match my mask collectibles even though I didn't liked the movie that much.   Smiley
