hi sir ment,

matindi ang research natin ah. but for me the real issue in buying a bluray player is that its dvd playing capability is locked to where you buy the player (until i read one of the articles you posted). because if what you posted is true. then mas convenient nga yan.

but for me, for the bluray side, i dont think being region free is important, we belong to the same region as the u.s., so basically all important movies made are from the u.s., so no issues here. really depends on your taste for movies, if you need those exotic european movies, then you may want it region freed.

but for dvd, formerly, if you want your player to play philippine discs, then you have to buy bluray players here in the country. but its expensive, if you get those players in the u.s. which is a lot cheaper, you get a region "a" bluray player and region "1" dvd player. hope your article is true, because a lot of guys would want that, so that they dont have to maintain a separate dvd player to play the other region's discs.

bump up!

I just got my bd player yesterday. Panasonic dmp-bd60. It is supposedly hacked and region free totally Smiley

Sa dvd it is true Smiley finally a worthy replacement of my long-time pioneer dvd player

Is it just me? Or talagang mas maganda pic quality ng dvd played over bd player vs sa upconverting dvd player like toshiba?

At nung nag test ako ng mga bd video parang r3 disc ang bluray . . . . Ang lakas ng sound effect. Ang hina ng dialog. Lalo sa the italian job.

When i bought my Sony BDP-S301 through a relative, i havent thought about its DVD playing capability.  So discovering later that it cant read my R3 collections was so gross, though I was redeemed by its ability to play flawlessly all my sidewalk Bluray DVD collections. I stopped buying R3s now. Roll Eyes

Quote
I have a new BD-P1500, and after 5 Times
The trick seemed to be not holding the repeat key too long.
I have a Region B/4, running
090417_01_BDP1500_XAX.RUF
I used the R4 code from below.
1) Turn on the player with no disc in the tray
Wait till the unit is at the Samsung logo screen.
2) Open then close the tray, wait to see the No-Disc Message in the top Left Corner
3) Now press the REPEAT button on the remote, followed by a five digit code.
In this case Repeat 76884
Now it to me about 5 tries to get this to work, It needed to be done without delay.
So if you don’t get it to work straight away don’t loose heart.
4) When it works a 4 will appear in the top left corner
5) Press 9 to make it regionless.
6) Press Eject to OPEN to open the disc tray.
7) Press Eject to CLOSE to close the disc tray.
Cool Power the unit off
9) Now power the unit on again, it should now read all regions of DVD Disc.
From other threads I got the follow list of region codes.
R1 - 29334
R2 - 57538
R3 - 56732
R4 - 76884
R5 - 53814
R6 - 24462

Hi, I'm new here!

AS FAR as my guts tells me, wala akong nalalaman na nagtitinda ng Region-free Blu Ray unit dito sa site or any physical stores sa 'Pinas. Parang nobody cares to address this untapped market, or possesses the ingenuity to modify the units. I tried to looked for a Region-free and I found two, the Momitsu 799 and the Sherwood Newcastle - but their video texture is not up to par with the velvety, cinematic confidence of a Sony, Panasonic or a Samsung (Samsung is the worst in reliability, andaming nagtitinda dito noong BDP5100 - sa nakabili na lets see if it'll goes past 90 days). When you shift the Momitsu and Sherwood to Region B, that means locking it up to the aforesaid Region, hence its all-Region but you need to alter it everytime you straddle between Regions A or B.
I also read from some moneyed chaps here that there are Oppo Blu Rays which has been modified to be Region-free. But Oppo only cares to sell in the Western hemisphere, 'ala itong pakialam sa Asia. Hence where do they scored their Region-free Oppos? From Singapore they took it. Region-free Oppo BD-93's at $1,050 Singapore dollar (or around P35,000). If you have no Singapore connection, you can't obtain it - unless you order direct in which case the Singaporean seller mails it through Fedex or UPS yata and down to the sweaty claws of Customs your Oppo goes through. Two weeks ago I checked this Singaporean seller and they're selling the model at S$950. Pero noong tingnan ko uli itinaas na ng tindero ang presyo.
You could also look over the auction sites. Hence I tried eBay.Ph and I found modified Oppo's there. Pero nasa Amerika yung tindero, and you need to pay through Paypal, and add around P5,000 for courier. Because it'll be shipped through the United States Parcel Service, dadaan ito sa Customs, hence you'll end up with very expensively-acquired all-Regioner Oppos. For me its not worth it - the trouble and the costs.
What then is the solution? The cheapest I could think is this: Have your Region A but take also a REgion B-locked unit (yung galing sa UK or Europe). Maybe Anya/Philip could help here...

My Pana BD30 is region free for BDs and DVDs but I seldom use it to watch my DVDs since PQ (for DVD playback) is junk.  I use my OPPO DVD player for DVD playback instead.

the memorex that CDRKing sells (MVBD2520) is proven to be region free in bluray coding for less than 3k. But it isn't in terms of the DVd.

I have a pioneer bdp 140 and it can definitely play 500GB hard drives. I'v tested avi, mp4 and mkv; and it works but it did struggle with an anime mkv, im not sure why.
It can only read region 3 DVDs.

Ya i'm disappointed too at the limited at the blu ray selection here but well were a 3rd world country.

I purchased a Sony BD Drive for my Acer laptop 2 years ago. I was using TMT3 Blu-ray software to view content. Last year I purchased a MacBook Pro and was not able to play Blu-rays through it. All that changed this evening when I purchased a software that allows Blu-ray playback thru a Mac. What's more its multi region too. Just waiting for my Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter to arrive then I can play movies via my projector. It even allows screenshots to be taken.
Cool beanz.

I don't think so. Region A for BD and Region 1 for DVDs. I only use the LD BDP for BDs. For DVDs I use my Pio DV420 which is region free Grin
